Sydney's newest cultural and events space is nearing completion after reaching a major milestone. The Cutaway at Barangaroo is set to become a must-see destination for locals and tourists alike

A 15-Year Vision Realised: this year marks the milestone completion of Barangaroo South, which has transformed The City of Sydney’s north-western harbour from a disused container port on the edge of the Central Business District (CBD) to a mixed-use, carbon neutral, vibrant, inclusive precinct sitting at the water’s edge.
RSHP, with Lendlease, won a design competition that sought a developer for the 22-hectare Barangaroo masterplan. The masterplan was organised into three distinct precincts: Barangaroo South for high density commercial and residential development, an extension of the city’s CBD; Barangaroo Reserve, a naturalistic reconstruction of the historic northern headland as a landscaped destination for all; and Barangaroo Central, a low density residential neighbourhood overlooking a harbour-side city park, and connecting North to South.
In the 10 years since the completion of the first phase of the development, Barangaroo South has become an extraordinary successful new city quarter frequented by Sydneysiders, tourists, workers and resident’s alike, seven days a week.

ich and JC,
We were in the Arcade in 2000, right after the Summer Olympics.
I also bought an Opal Pendant there for my wife. - #1227 [JCR33], 25-12-26 11:46ich,
I know exactly how you feel about Aussie culture. When I first arrived in Sydney back in the late 80's, I stayed for 5 years living in the Hills areas. Simple life and some might say boring. I learnt how to mow the lawn, working with tools and using pans and pots. I had to drive to work and shop, dealt with traffic jams as we had very poor public transport.
In the last 10-15 years, Sydney has gone through a huge transformation and we now have good public transport system and more vibrant city living options. Now you don't have to drive, more and better restaurants and cafes to choose. I like the city now, trendy, fashionable, beautiful architecture and the weather is good for most of the time.
Sydney’s iconic Queen Victoria Building (QVB) - home to some of the city’s most luxurious labels - has been partly sold to a Hong Kong retail giant as part of a multi-shopping-centre deal that could help revitalise the sector.
Fifty per cent of the prized QVB, alongside The Galeries and the Strand Arcade, are now in the hands of Hong Kong’s Link REIT, which picked them up for $538.2 million.
It’s the biggest retail deal since before the COVID-19 pandemic struck and is a positive sign for a sector still struggling to recover following a highly turbulent 18 months across the country, especially for Melbourne and Sydney.

Our feeling varies at different stage of life. When I first arrived in Sydney in early 80s, I found it very slow and too relax in attitude . I really did not like Australian style of life just before I returned to HK to make more money around mid 90s.
However when I decided to retire in Melbourne 7 years ago, I love the environment, people 's attitude and overall living condition here. Of course the ONLY factor I moved for good is because of our kids had chosen to work in Melbourne.
Over the last few years I like retiring in Australia more and more. We enjoy the family life here. There are almost 40 family members in Melbourne this month and we need to host the annual family gathering at 2 homes.
I created this thread, hoping to concentrate the talks about this topic in R33. People can just skip it if not interested in it. For those who want to know more , hope you find out discussions useful.
BTW, I LOVE the Strand Arcade since day 1 in early 80s. Back then QVB was in poor and run down stage before the major renovation in mid 80s. I like the Victorian style buildings and can't help thinking the vibrant lives when they were in their prime.

His famous tea house may be opened in arcades like the Strand Arcade. BTW, I bought a gift for my then GF in the Strand Arcade years ago.

I love food, history, culture and architecture. HK can offer some but not all. That's why I love to travel around the world to learn and feel. Sydney is now my home and I love the peaceful and friendly community. - #1224 [alexanderkoo], 25-12-26 09:01Every place can be home to a man but exile to another.去到的也不需沾沾自喜,去不到也無需介懷,共勉之,可以去英國定居都費事去,負面消息多過正面

You are absolutely correct that how we all feel is more in our head and heart. When I am older, I love convenience and vibes of city life. No more house and garden works, more simple living, more social connectedness than isolation. Of course, there are pros and cons, but it is how we feel inside that matters.
Remember the Strand Arcade in Sydney CBD? Always busy and keeping the heritage feel.
