please keep up, your photos are just amazing. - #84 [fotheringay], 13-09-29 23:58Coming to know R33 was purely a surprise encounter when I researched 15" Tannoy Monitor Gold back in 2008 and R33 appeared. Then I realised it was more than that.
It has lot more to go for:photography, music, current affairs and even some British connection.
The Hi-Fi bit isn't particular my strong point as I didn't have the same level like most HK audiophiles would possess. Nonetheless I would say pretty impressive as compared to most people I know. Hi-end stuff just doesn't sell here and in fact 2-channel media is dying away faster than you could imagine.
My systems had also gone through a lot of changes especially after I lost my hearing. -
- #85 [fotheringay], 13-09-30 00:09From at one point I owned 20+ turntables to now just a DIY Lenco and a pair of Spendor BC1A. No fancy equipment but simply musical silence.

- #87 [fotheringay], 13-09-30 03:38Good evening, Somonica.
- #88 [fotheringay], 13-09-30 20:20Whoever lives or has lived in the UK may remember the TV License Fee. There is a annual charge for using a TV, even though you may argue just watching Video. The fee is to fund the BBC so that we will receive "good quality" public broadcasting. In order to make sure people were watching with proper licensing the Government established The TV Detective Unit to enforce the law. There would be TV Detection van running on the streets with the big aerial.
As a student in the Uni, we could not afford the license(well, better spent on alcohol) so only the "Stupid" or "Very Rich" kids would pay. Every time when we saw the van we would unplug the TV from the mains, thinking that just turned it off wasn't good enough. Some even lock themselves inside the house without answering the doors though it might not be "TV guys".
Today I was listening to BBC Radio 2 and the subject was "did the TV van ever work?". Some told their horrified stories to avoid the TV guys, some argued they did exist and people got fined and even some TV guys spoke out for the fact.
The truth is the TV Detection vans do exist and they do have some "electronic equipment" installed inside the van. However, the equipment was never turned on or nobody knew for sure how did they work. The aerial did not actually turn and it could not detect anything. They drove round the streets with no particular purpose. There were other teams who would actually knock on people door to check their license but it was only a random act. The whole thing was a hoax and based on fear of people getting caught!!!!!

In terms of music in recent weeks nothing is more exciting than the fact the that Fleetwood Mac is touring again. If you are like me who has been following all the changes in Fleetwood Mac history then you may be able to comprehend my gravity of excitement.
Not only have I got excited from their performance from also the fact that Christine McVie was going to perform with them for one show!! The multi-complex relationships going on within the members are well documented so I won't bore you to death with much details. I have been a big follower of Christine before even she joined Fleetwood Mac. Back in the 60's she was in the Blues band Chicken Shack. She was still called Christine Perfect and well received as not many Whites could sing Blues well, not to mention from a girl!
On 25th Sep, 2013 she finally sang with her friends one more time since she left in 1998. She would only sing in the UK tour as she hates flying, especially she hates going back to America.

最後修改時間: 2013-10-05 05:12:59 - #90 [fotheringay], 13-10-05 19:10Reading another thread about the toe-in position of the speakers I need more changes since my hearing lost. I used to just toe in about 10 degree and obtain a good hearing sound-stage. These days I found it necessary to toe in about 40 degree in order to create a "mock" stereo imagery experience.
- #91 [fotheringay], 13-10-06 01:54We were lucky to have a very good Summer, hot and dry most of the times. Sadly it won't last. Our Canadian Red Oak is starting to change colour now. The Autumn has finally arrived.

Seems our lives have diverged somewhat and now meet again, thanks to the web. Fleetwood Mac is one of my always favourite. I was never a Londoner when I was in the UK. I lived in Leeds and Miltone Keynes, and what I really wanna go is of course London. Wong Kee is the only thing I could afford when I was a student. There's a place I started to learn how to cook simple decent Chinese food, one skill I haven't improved since I was back, sadly. I was always afraid of the van thing. Since I watched British TV - it taught us how television could be in the world or Europe, especially compared to HK media - my major is media studies. My real work is to enjoy culture, my real real work is now to ad admin and meet irrelevant persons and teach media studies. My path to audiophile - or a cultured relaxed listener with the least effort - takes at a very slow rate. I do want my system better. But I can't afford switching 20 pairs of cables in one gathering and decide it's rubbish and that's a gem. I guess I got some real improvment in the last year, but that's the tool / means for me to enjoy better music. I planed to buy a turntable - oh, for years. But I guess I need to back my bass back after I moved to my new house. It took perhaps one year or so .. i wanna do it slowly, enjoying the music and process at the same time. I talk too much. PS: very nice to see you, and please reserve the Brian Eno LP for me. I still want it :)
- #93 [zbigniew821], 13-10-06 03:10May need better position. Now so be it.
- #94 [fotheringay], 13-10-06 07:01This is the place to relax. It could be seen as a lifestyle blog so anything can be touched upon. Hi-Fi or indeed music is part of it but by no means exclusively. I am no hi-fi nuts, thought I was but it turned out that I am a total failure.
In the modern world it seems that we are communicating a lot with each other, texting, twitting or "facbooking". In actual fact people are making or exchanging data, and not enough talking.
I once consider myself R33slut as I appeared in almost every thread. There have been changes and I won't do it any more. People come and people go, or being banned, resurrected and eventually vanished for good. Now you know where I am so please come by and talk though I don't see for how long.
As for the ENO LP, how am I getting it to you?
最後修改時間: 2013-10-06 07:02:42 - #95 [zbigniew821], 13-10-06 18:51chi thanks for your sharing. i knew what you mean. yes, god knows. let's be a but more Buddhist at our heart. i was away from r33 for almost 2 years, occasionally do some reading only. i guess you did meet some guys in HK some time ago. as for ENO, keep it. if we have 'Yuen', we'll meet, probably at your place or elsewhere. i like your lighthearted approach to hifi and things.
- #96 [simpleman], 13-10-06 19:21Good morning chi. & have a nice Sunday, right, leaves turn yellow and Autumn is coming.
- #97 [fotheringay], 13-10-06 20:29zbig,
I don't think you miss much.......
There is always the saying that "they ain't made the same like the old days". Nevertheless, I always look forward and perhaps take a break or two in between. - #98 [fotheringay], 13-10-06 20:31Good-day, simpleman,
How's the weather like in.....?
(sorry for the ? as I don't remember if you are in HK or Canada, or somewhere totally different) - #99 [simpleman], 13-10-06 21:45Good afternoon chi, I'm in HK, we've an Autumn with >30℃ now.
Thanks, you tell me the truth of the TV detection vans, I also didn't pay the license fee when I was a poor student in UK as well. - #100 [icefox_2001], 13-10-07 00:03chi good to see you back, your very tasteful photography are sublimely missed.

Fancy seeing you here and thanks for the kind words ^_^
I am afraid apart from old relics and lousy pictures there aren't much attraction of "treasures" like those from your mates.
Good to see you. - 下一頁 (5 of 39)

I have been reading your diary with your recent trip to Down Under. All my family members(parents, brothers and sisters) are living in Australia or Australian in Hong Kong.
I should visit Uluru one day.
