2023-03-12 10:46:33 - #730 [fotheringay], 23-03-12 09:04Indeed it was very unfortunate.
It's a known fact that Lineker got a bit carried away, as he tends to do. Don't we all?
With regards to " 至於關唔關保守黨事, 我相信就算係工黨執政, 以現時嘅經濟狀況, 佢哋都會出同一招 " I don't quite get your point.
Are you suggesting that BBC bows to the Troy because BBC is subject to mercy with license fees and public funding? If so I am not so sure.
I believe the fundamental issue is that Tim Davie appointed as Director General of BBC in 2020 and his mission is root to his calling of "impartiality".
However, his advocate of some high profile should take more responsibility in social media and principle of "impartiality" don't seem to work under the leadership of his and the BBC Chairman Richard Sharp. -
- #728 [fotheringay], 23-03-12 05:58The same for Alex Scott wearing “One Love “ armband in 2022 Qatar World Cup when players were banned by FIFA.
Why? Because it’s not the Troy she criticised. - #727 [tonylaibach], 23-03-12 03:29Someone brought up a good point: if Lineker was "allowed" to criticize Qatar at World Cup, why couldn't he criticize his own country now?
I quoted from National Union of Journalists (NUJ)
"Yielding to sustained political pressure in this way is as foolish as it is dangerous."
Lineker and CO’s.

- #722 [fotheringay], 23-03-11 22:04Thanks for the feedbacks.
My last post is for the audience who may not know Gary Lineker. Of course, we old cakes would have known about Lineker pretty well from his upbringing in Leicester from a greengrocer working class family.
Your views on the current affairs posted here are very much welcome though I don't necessarily agree with them.
This post, I hope, can provide a place with freedom of speech as long as not malice and unfound personal attacks.
Please keep on sharing.

Perhaps if you don't know who is Gary Lineker and what is all about this saga and here is a brief introduction.
" For many years, Gary Lineker has been one of sport's most famous faces - both on the football pitch and on television screens.
The 62-year-old is one of the most recognisable figures associated with the broadcaster, and is part of the footballing landscape in the UK.
He took over as host of the BBC's football highlights programme in 1999 after a stellar career as a striker for England, Leicester City, Everton, Spurs and Barcelona that finished in Japan.
One of the broadcaster's highest-paid presenters, Lineker is viewed by many as one of the faces of the BBC - and he has not shied from using his high profile to express his political views.
He has taken refugees into his home and spoken passionately about the need to protect people who come to the country in need.
*In a tweet on Tuesday, the Match of the Day host compared the language used to launch the government's new asylum policy with that used in 1930s Germany
*The BBC said it considered his tweets a breach of its guidelines and that Lineker will remain off air until it gets "an agreed and clear position on his use of social media"
*Following the announcement, other Match of the Day pundits dropped out of Saturday's show in solidarity with Lineker, including Ian Wright and Alan Shearer

Hear, hear. - #716 [fotheringay], 23-03-11 19:33I have always been a loyal fan of the BBC due to their staff being professional, knowledgeable, brave and conscientious.
However, in recent years the top management has become so corrupt and biased that I felt these people will bring down the BBC.
This is reflected by the recent saga with the famous footballer and TV presenter Gary Lineker.
I admire Lineker for his outspoken political view which always being just, professional and humane.
I am so proud of him that he is not bowing to the pressure from Tim Davie, the BBC Director General, who himself has bowed to the Government shamelessly.
Also, I would also like to give my utmost respect to those who stand with Lineker and will not work with BBC until Lineker is being reinstated.
Revolution is starting now.

It comes too late and too little but still it is very exciting to know it’s the end of his political career.
He and his party have ruined the country for far too long.
I am drinking to this for much jubilation.
