prince

iron butterfly
許多年前在鴨paul處買了這唱片,全因一曲in a gada da va da,樂隊雖未能登入殿堂,但這單曲絕對是搖滾樂中最精彩的樂曲之一。 - #65 [fotheringay], 16-04-23 16:23
koalaau,
Glad that you enjoy Iron Butterfly. My father-in-law used to hang out with them in the 70's before joining the US Army.
I did learn the sad news about the passing away of Prince.
As said many times before 2016 seems the year to put a curse on some talents. I thought I would have got numb by now as I heard many names in the past few months.
Not this one though!
R.I.P. my Little Prince.

Some suggested that Iron Butterfly was part of the Psychedelic rock era though gradually moved towards to Heavy Rock.
There was reason to believe the above statement since they were formed in California and in San Francisco the Psychedelic Movement was high on everyone's mind.
We have mentioned Yardbirds but more names to follow this movement, eg. Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, the Doors and Pink Floyd among the many.
This is my father-in-law original Mono copy of Grateful Dead debut album and I am lucky to include in my collection. - #67 [fotheringay], 16-04-23 16:46
Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Starship or Grace Slicks must be familiar with most friends and I believe they were quite popular in HK for their later "Pop Rock" songs.
To me their prime was still when they were a true Psychedelic band. - #68 [fotheringay], 16-04-23 17:03
Shall we shift the attention to the other side of the pond, UK.
There is no escape for the UK bands to exhibit their Psychedelic influence especially their "No.1" band in the world the Beatles was doing it.
It's funny that the older generation in the UK always despise any ideas contrast to their traditions but the younger generation always did the opposite. They love their freedom and their strong affection of fighting against the establishment. This is more to do with their long established individual right and thinking and at the same time the social economic crisis happening at the time.
Among those came with this working class Pink Fairies from London.
The notion of promoting free music, drug taking and anarchy is too good to miss.

From a collector point of view this album is possibly the most sought-after Psychedelic album.
This is a reissue of Tinkerbells Fairydust from the UK which was formed in 1960's. It's very difficult to locate the original album and even if you do you need to prepare to pay £4-5000 for it!!!

Well action speaks louder than words.
I make this today and deliberately choose a popular tune from this less known band. - #71 [fotheringay], 16-04-23 21:04
This is one I like from Twink.
With this reissue there is forward from Pink Fairies. - #72 [koalaau], 16-04-24 15:09師兄的外父竟然曾和鐵蝴蝶一齊玩!
jefferson airplane是經典搖滾女聲,最喜歡佢首white rabbit。
pink fairies未聽過,好聽喎,迷幻野,啱我。^^ - #73 [fotheringay], 16-04-25 01:20
koalaau Hing has mentioned that he wasn't very keen on the post 90's Rock.
While I agree I am still very much in the gang of Stones Roses, The Charlatans, Ride and Spacemen 3, I guess koalaau was frustrated then because there were too many to choose from.
Shoegaze music may be short-lived and surpassed by Britpop but it paved the foundation for the success for Pulp, Oasis, Blur, Suede and many other Indie bands.
I am just thinking perhaps I will take this opportunity to revisit some 90's stuff.
I guess many will love this collaboration between the old and the new. - #74 [fotheringay], 16-04-25 01:25
Not only were we being spoiled by the British Indie but also many American counterparts.
Smashing Pumpkins, The Sonic Youth, 10,000 Maniacs and this one as I used to sing this song in a karaoke a lot.
May I just say the karaoke here in the UK is very simple. There will just a DJ with his mobile unit and Mics and mostly done in a local pub.

They would have deserved more success if not for their internal personal conflict.
- #76 [fotheringay], 16-04-25 01:31
I used to hate them because they were arrogant and Liam Gallagher was just a copycat.
However, I do love some of their music because they were really good.
This is included in my "Desert Disc". - #77 [fotheringay], 16-04-25 01:32To be continued.....

war
