- #21367 [fotheringay], 25-07-07 06:42We also went to San Sebastián which lies on the coast of the Bay of Biscay, 20 km (12 miles) from the France–Spain border.
It is a famous coastal city and always attracts lots of tourists from very early days. Both the Spanish and French nobles from the bygone age were advised by their medicine men to come here to help improve their health.
Though mainly influenced by French and Spanish culture the English influence was also present here. However, I don't think the history was on the English side.
In 1808, Napoleonic forces captured San Sebastián. However, British and Portuguese troops besieging San Sebastián and assaulted the town. The relieving troops ransacked and burnt the city to the ground. Only the street at the foot of the hill (now called 31 August Street) remained.
OMG!!!!

I can't help myself thinking about the sense in God Father. When the Italians did the march and shooting started, but not that day!!!

- #21365 [fotheringay], 25-07-07 06:38Inside the walled city you see some distinctive buildings with some still in medieval era and some with 18th century stone built buildings.
It was said that many residents from the past had served the Royal Families and so they had enough money to building much better and grander houses to show off. This is a little bit like our 圍頭村 culture in NT or in Mainland China.

Interestingly, the soldier was hold a saw and not normally a rifle as he was the front troop to cut the woods with saw to allow the troops to advance.

We went to a small boarder town called Hondarribia, a border town situated on a little promontory facing Hendaye (France) over the Txingudi bay. Apparently the town has the smallest international commercial airport in Spain.
On the day we were lucky to see a blessing march from the locals to thank the fishermen.
We are standing on the Spanish side and taking picture of the French side across the river.

Indeed. You won’t find these easily in HK or China as mostly gave way for redevelopment.
保育is secondary and unnecessary. 破舊立新 is a must for progress and showing prosperity.

We did think about the Vizcaya Bridge but my wife she wasn't very keen on it.
I don't know why, probably due to fear but I would love it.

I would say Newquay in Cornwall and Nice in France are very nice but they don't come close!!!
Obviously Gold Coast in Queensland and Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro would be famous and bigger too.
