Not sure the 35mm film needs to be resurrected as more new films from different companies have been released every year. They could be relabelled from Kodak or Agfa stock. The market may be small but it’s there.
I am sure it will not grow significantly but then again it won’t die off either.
People using film is not after resolution or even the finest details like most of the digital cameras could yield. Rather, it’s just the alternative, just like Indie and Punk music. They are made and created to stand side by side with the mainstream music.
- #6022 [Thanatos], 23-01-06 18:03The point is: there is no need to resurrect an inferior format
If one wants to resurrect film for the sake of image quality, it must be at least 120 format

When we were younger tubes and valves also fascinated us and many of us fell for them.
Vinyls, tapes and soon CDs will be revived.
Fashion and classic can come and go. How many of us are still playing vinyls regularly? - #6018 [Thanatos], 23-01-06 15:22To be honest, 135 format was only considered to be a convenient option.
In order to appreciate film quality, we need 120 at least. - #6017 [BenYC], 23-01-06 11:41#6015
Indeed a lot of young people are rushing into film shooting. I guess it is more a trendy thing but I don't think it will last. Shooting film is just too costly and impractical. I was shocked to know how expensive films are these days. Yet, it is good that they use film for a while to slow them down. - #6016 [BenYC], 23-01-06 11:29#6014
Hi Chi Gor,
Whether it is film or digital, the end goal is the same. Yet the execution in reaching it can be quite different, thou not as drastic as AF vs MF.
With film, we need to be very sure to press shutter at the right moment and usually, recoil is slow.
With Digital, its much more advanced and faster. With 4+ frame per second for lower end digital cameras and unlimited frames, many shots not possible back then is now probable.
In the past, just getting a sharp and technically correct photo is considered good. Now, any digital camera can do the job by themselves. Actually, this makes photography both easier and harder. Easier to get clear and acceptable photos but harder to make it less boring as anyone can get good shots. The standard is much higher.
I guess it is always the content. Boring or not is the key. I have been trying to take my camera with me everyday. I think I take an average no more than 10 photos per week and all of them are like "Meh... but I have my camera with me, better shoot something..."
In other words, I suck.
最後修改時間: 2023-01-06 11:32:51 - #6015 [JCR33], 23-01-06 08:09I know many young people are taking up films and buying cameras, old and new. Just wonder how many will stay as a hobby and life long passion or like firework, bang and gone!
A few years back, I also loaded a roll into my M6. Shot a few times and had it developed by Kmart. Nothing special and the process is a bit slow for my busy daily routine.
Digital cameras and post processing are pretty advance now and I see more gain than lost.
I also like doing street photography, some snapshots can be fun and unexpectedly satisfying.

I have indeed taken the wrong impression partially thinking that you are still shooting film.
What is important and exhibiting by you that you maintain the mentality with digital format.
Does digital or analogue format play such a big role and deciding factor when you compose a picture and develop a workload?
I used to shoot hundreds of frame on each outing. Now it comes down to no more than 20. It could be the reasons of fearing the laws and ideas running out.
That said, each frame has become more meaningful and memorable to a point that I start to enjoy again. I have to admit that I wasn’t really shooting still and was the reason why I shot videos in my garage more than still in the last few years.
The prospect of shooting fanatically would be long gone and I am still looking for inspiration and ideas to improve my photography. Perhaps a rethink like you suggested.

I must have confused you. Sorry, I no longer use film. I quitted this hobby quite long time ago and now trying to restart.
My problem is I shoot digital photos as if I am using film camera. Rarely do I press the shutter unless I am sure. Also, never review the photos on spot after shooting. This whole bad habit I have just don't make sense in today's digital world....
Now trying to shoot more and press the shutter more. Also trying to relearn how to take photo. Pathetic indeed. - #6012 [fotheringay], 23-01-05 21:22Lovely to know that there are still some shooting film.
I have films always with my Mamiya C3, M3 and Nikon F2 though one film may last a year or more!!
I keep it like a time capsule and I don't mind if this is out of date or not. In fact I still have around 4 rolls of 120 and 135 films need to be developed.
I thought if the chemicals do turn bad I would just treat it as Lomography!!
With regards to mentality for modern days photography, what is that?
I don't consider myself like them because it means they are heavily involved with PS this, PS that. I do use PS and LR but like I used to do it in a real darkroom with films.
It actually took me a long time to accept digital photography but like they say once you're in there is no going back.
It becomes a habit rather than a hobby now. Of course it has financial advantage that it saves a lot of money with films. Everyone has a computer so hardwares are always easy and available.
It's getting harder and harder to maintain shooting film so you have my utmost respect so please keep going.
I wish I would have kept my Hasselblad SWC.

I guess I still got stuck in the film days. Your methods work but I am still a point and shot and get it over with kind of shooter. Bad mentality for modern day photography.
I definitely need to re-learn how to use my camera.

Ben,
One way to counter the problem of out of focus when handholding is stacking different frames into one.
Another way will be is using the high spec DSLR to shoot high speed frame, eg. 100 frames per second, and hopefully you get a few shots in focus.
Back to the resolution of "ahead of its time" this guy used a Fuji GFX100s to test and according to him.........read!

Thanks for the definition.
With the definition I think I could nominate another lens which is also ahead of the time.
I once owned the legendary CANON EF 200MM 1.8 L which is, allegedly, the sharpest lens ever produced.
When I had my new Canon 1D DSLR in 2001(after promotion and so treating myself) I was always busy with the Canon group with Dpreview. The members always talked a lot about this lens.
Eventually I bought one from a South Korean ebayer. Apparently this 200/1.8 is popular with Korean wedding photographers. When their economy collapsed many business had to sell the assets and so many of theses lens flooded on eBay. It costed me £1250 back in 2001 as I just need one and not the prettiest.
It was a mind blowing lens and a monster to hold!

A bit like vinyl, Costco still sells very cheap record players just for old time sake.
