She seems to know the camera well!
We had a wonderful chat and she told me many people are taking pictures in Norwich today.

Some more shots before handing them back.
The newly recruited staff and the R100 APO really show good skin tone.

Which iPhone are you using? Have you tried the iPhone14 Pro? For most social media purposes, including R33, I could say the IQ from iPhone or smartphone are OK. Of course, for other purposes or some users, they are far from ideal.
I have used my friends' Q and Q2, they are good for most situations. having said that it is not for me as I still prefer to have my choice of lenses to use and I don't mind the trouble of carrying. I know for a fact that Q/2 are the most successful product for Leica and the revenue from that have helped Leica on other research and development. - #6037 [BenYC], 23-01-09 16:09Smartphone is not good enough indeed.
Yet, to me, normal full frame are all useable enough especially when everyone is using photoshop and lightroom anyway. I think some need speed, some doesn't. Some want very nice optics, some care more about content. Some demand both. There is no right or wrong answer to all these questions. Everyone needs to find his/her own answer through experimenting.

I had tried to enlarge an iPhone photo taken at night and used it as wallpaper. It was completely unusable in terms of noise and resolution.
As for autofocus and ease of use, please take a look at this video, in which Siegfried uses Q : - #6035 [JCR33], 23-01-09 14:52Ben,
I know you long enough and understand your dilemma about Leica lenses, especially your collection of R and M. Indeed, new smartphone is so smart nowadays it can do everything for you. The problem is we have collected them over the years and stupid enough to keep them. Just feeling guilty not to use them and it is something we call hobby that we know a bit about. A bit of memories and kind of sad to let go. Soon we will be looking at downsizing both physical and emotional burden.
Sunrise and sunset, it will be there tomorrow and day after. - #6034 [BenYC], 23-01-09 13:52Being politically incorrect here but hell with it. I have no bad intention. I am sure friends that know me know I am dumb and odd by now.
Leica lens are probably the best optics one can find in modern cameras. Many friends here do get good shots. Yet, if one can have a faster, smaller and easier camera, there will be way more good shots, at least for street snaps. Cannot imagine how many times I got upset of myself when I missed a shot in my M film days or miss focus on my R film days.
For the price of peanuts, why not try out a small small AF set. I paid my dues and had carried enough weight back when I was younger. I am not going back to slow, bulky and heavy stuff. Of coz, my preference is my own and I don't value optics as much. Yet, no trying, no knowing.

I think I have also mentioned the SL24-90 Vario, how much I like this lens and hate the weight/size.
This is not a fast lens but because of the SL/2, the high ISO can surely help even in the dark situation.
Not much bokeh can be expected from this lens but I like it a lot.

I can only share my views about what I have used, so those lenses might some characteristics as you described as bokeh. Actually, when I bought the lenses, I knew very little about them. I only knew they were well built and German made. Even when I shot with film cameras at the time, I did not know what to expect, most were poor composition and out of focus.
Bokeh was the word I learned years after when I started reading more Japanese magazines. Internet was still at its infancy and not a main source of info like what we are having today.
I am not an artist nor a photographer, but I know what I like, just like everyone else. A photo can be taken in many different ways even with the same lens and camera. Having a fast lens can definitely give us a unique image because of the DOF and most modern cameras with high ISO can give excellent IQ even in low light situation. I have enjoyed using the 50 Noct when I go out in the evening for outdoor architectural shots. Is sharpest so important for every photo? Sure. Sometimes, a bit of contrast and blurriness can give the mood at the time.
Again, I am just sharing my personal feeling about what I have used, not really qualify to praise anything. :-)

It seems all the lenses you particularly praise are those renown for distinctive bokeh.
Some may be sharper than the others, or colours are much more richer than the others, or more natural, or vibrant but they all share the same, Bokeh.
And the lens has to be fast as it produces very different DOF. I don't think you are after speed as most digitals can shoot anything from ISO 3200 to 6400 with no loss to details and acceptable level of noise.

最後修改時間: 2023-01-08 05:06:17 - #6027 [fotheringay], 23-01-07 18:42The most pleasing aspect of this combination of SL and APO 100 is the result of the colours, saturation and details and they remind me of the days when I shot Fuji Velvia.
It's not quite total Velvia as it doesn't give you the 100% analogue feel. This is absolutely fine because though it is a digital production from the SL it has much better texture and DR than the Sony A7 and much closer interpretation of a film.
Also, I think it sits between the original Velvia(ASA50) and the new incarnation of Velvia 100F as it isn't as over-saturated like the original Velvia. Of course I could increase it by editing in PS or LR but it is not appropriate.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it has produced 3D like quality but it actually gets very close.

I woke up with a typical UK grey overcast Winter morning. Since it is the normal light and colour temp we get throughout most of the time in the UK(even in the Summer) so I do test the macro function. Instead, I shoot it just like a normal medium telephoto lens.
Again, using my garden as a backdrop as it has all the textures, shades and shapes to show how good or bad the APO 100mm would be performing.
When loaned with this lens I was also loaned with a Leica SL body as I asked could I do a proper Leica Digital body with a Leica lens.
All pictures taken with a Leica SL + Leica R APO 100mm, all taken wide open @f2.8 ISO 200
