- #41 [M6], 05-10-01 15:32Interesting photo.
- #42 [and.t], 05-10-01 18:15M6 Pang own two M6s and I guess SWC does own a SWC perhaps with a M = SWC/M
In response to SWC , I did praise the FD 50 f1.2 SSC (hand ground apherical glass too)in another thread "傳統手動單鏡反光相機 " This lens is a piece of art, no luck to own one since I was not a Canon user until 10D => a workhorse for job use. This 50 1.2 was only touched by my hand at Chen Hung, very solid feel, and good design for the concealed bayonet ring. I almost become a new FD user ,but finially went for a used F2 80xxxxxxx with SB photomic top because of the lens performance at that time. Niokn gears did gave me alot of good momeries.
My first Leica was a M3 DS with 50 F/2 dual ring, a good entry level combo with bargain price, both in good return with the very nice and sharp (in style, not the same sharpness as Jap. lens) pictures. Then I moved to M6 TTL and M4. Both M3 and M4 are also "piece of art".
If someone said "Oh I want to be a Leica user some day if I have the $$$$$....! If that guy don't mind to buy a user condition M3 + the 50 2 summicron, it is a best way to get started.......no need to see the urgly face of Mr XXXX at Man Shing, where I lost a lot of money......!!! - #43 [and.t], 05-10-01 18:18SWC,
Fill in the unfinished user list lar......! -
- #44 [swc], 05-10-01 23:07Agree with you again for "Both M3 and M4 are also "piece of art". I have used from M2-M6 and still own some M3-M6s. Apart from those military models, in terms of built quality, my order of preference would be M3, M2, M4(German made models only), M5 then M6. But for design and easy of use, M6 is still the best.
M3+ f2/50mm is really a good start to join the Leica family. The viewfinder (x.9) of M3 could be inconvenient for those ferquent user of 28-35mm lenses, but may be a welcome for those telephoto lovers. When you own a Leica (M model especially), you will treat it as an art work of precise craftmanship. Any electronics built into it will contaminate the spirit of the initial design. You want to own a Leica not because it has the best series of lenses on earth (actually it doesn't), but just for it is a legend in photographic industry. This is similar to Patek Philippe which is also a lengend representing the highest craftmanship and design complication in horology. Everyone knows a PP of any value will be no more accurate in time keeping than a 300 hundred dollar Seiko quartz.
Since I have not done any film photography for the last two years, all my Leica gears are for collection only (until one day a cheaper digital body is marketed to accommodate Leica lenses). I use digital camera for its easy of processing print output. I wonder if it is suitable for me to fill in the user list in such status. But i should be delighted to post sharing of my limited exdperience in Leica if other club members feel interested. - #45 [ilovesonatas], 05-10-01 23:25Nice thread. I would like to join. I own a Leica CL, M2 & M3 with some old style screw mount (with adapter) Leica lens.
- #46 [sugizo], 05-10-02 00:00stanfield hing,
I remember my friend had told me, fixed focus Leica lens is superior than zoon lens.
If you really "heat" on Leica, its better to collect their lens.
And I remember if you collect them all needs around HK$200k.
And then no problem at 135mm film camera.
More advance 120 film, neverend................. - #47 [and.t], 05-10-02 00:32Take some fresh air folks !

- #53 [ksl], 05-10-02 23:15I used to have the R21/4 Superangulon . It was made by Scheneider. The colour reproduction is slightly different from those by Leica . A bit cool, the resolution and colour are top class. It is very bulky.
I sold it with the R 7 and took the M series . Any way , it is an excellent len at 21mm. - #54 [BenYC], 05-10-04 23:52New comers, please fill out the user list:

- #57 [leicatam], 05-10-05 03:17Good to know this club.
I have many leica stuff, both R, M and old IIIg, IIg, Leica I, and so on...
Besides my wife, two lovely kids, and my life... Leica will be stay with my for the rest of my time...
I also played digital, from Nikon D1 - Canon 5D... I still like Leica. The first picture and.t hing used 35mm at f8.0 or f11. Very rich color because using Fuji film.
For 35mm f1.4 problem, I think swc hing requires to test the len back to repair center. BTW, there is only one reason to use 35mm at f1.4, the image should not be away from you more than 1.5 meters. Who will care about the coners of the frame?
I knew a good friend, Mr. Zhou Hai, a prof in China. He used M6 and 35mm f1.4 over 10 years. He lived in the minning field over 2 years for his workshops. He always told me that if you like Leica M, you did not need more than 3 lens; 35mm, 50mm, 90mm.
this is his web site for your reference:

Any comments on Leica's digital cameras ??
Thanks. - #59 [ksl], 05-10-05 11:52I sugest Pro. Zhou to replace the 50mm to 21mm.
He can get more dynamic pictures. - #60 [swc], 05-10-05 14:51leicatam hing
Thanks for your advise, but the 35mm.f1.4 lenses i tried was about in the year 1984, when i bought from Kinefoto and took several photos at fully opened aperture just for testing its performance. The result came out to be very soft across the entire frame which was not a usable f stop for practical use. I then swap for another one from Kinefoto, but with same result. I ended up purchased the f2/35mm. instead. I did inquire Ho Yi Yam, a then master in repairing Leica M in HK, about the problem. His answer confirmed my finding.
Agree with you the f1.4 aperture is only suitable for close distance and under low lighting condition. If you really wanted to have M f1.4/35mm in the 1980's or earlier days, you got no choice but have to accept its limitation. But considering the price difference between the f2 and f1.4, the f2 was a better choice.
Yes, it is quite ture, for M series you need only 3 lenses as Mr.Zhou indicated. Especially in the field of photography he is specialised in, industrial photo-journalist I presume, no other camera will out-perform the Leica M series. IMHO - 下一頁 (3 of 305)
