Give every Leak, with low to high output power, a fair trial yourself! Of course, with friends' companion would be fairer. :) -

You are always my FIRST and LAST resources for restoring my gears.
Thanks for your FIRST support on this thread. You may consider to start an EICO club at R33 AND you should wake up all your Leak tube amplifiers which I think they are all sleeping under your bed (Only a GUESS, as a guest, I have no point to see what are under your bed :P).
John - #5 [Tim], 04-01-10 11:04Gingers,
It is true that the more powerful the power amp is, the worst it sounds. This applies to ALL amp rather than just Leak. And EL84 PP amp sound better than EL34 PP amp which sound better than KT88 amp in general IF the speaker is sensitive enough.
That is why I always stress that you cannot compare a EL84 amp with a KT88 amp just as you cannot compare a feather weight boxer with a super heavy weight boxer. And each amp should be compare to other amps of similar power.
For Leak TL25+, I really think there is nothing special about this amp. There are simply too many great sounding EL34 or KT66 amp monoblock (e,g, Eico, Quad and Audiomaster) that sound better.
But it is unique being able to use EL34/KT66/5881.
The most powerful amp made by Leak is the TL50+. IMHO, this is among the most collectable KT88 amp in the world being (1) the very first amp made for KT88; and (2) perhaps the best sounding KT88 PP amp ever made.
In original form, the TL50+ is one of the very very few KT88 PP amp that clearly sound better than the original MC275 to my ears!
As mentioned before, I think the best amp ever made by Leak are TL12.1, TL50+ and ST60, closely followed by TL12+.

I dream to have one day we can put all the Leak gears altogether to have a gathering/ a picture.
My Leak stereo 20 is singing now. Three hours without any problem encountered. Thanks again for reminding me to connect the switch with a jumper to make it works.
Too shame to say myself as a Leak lover. :O
John - #7 [Tim], 04-01-10 12:10Yes, that would be wonderful.
Let's see. You have :
TL12.1
TL12+
ST50
ST20
And I got :
TL12+
TL50+
ST60
So what are missing is only TL10 and TL25+ and both are very common to find in HK and maybe some R33 member got them already. (I think the rare TL25A is just a factory modified TL12.1)
When is the time for photo section?
I want to get this book (see pic), are you interested?

Tim - #8 [Gingers], 04-01-10 14:12The book is interesting. I am afraid my broken English will prevent from reading & understanding it. If you buy it, please let me have a glance on it.
Just to wait other Leak users turn up. Then we will queue up them to have a photo. hahhah.
John - #9 [Gingers], 04-01-10 14:13I am thinking I start this thread with a wrong name. In fact all tube amplifier lovers/ users are welcomed to chat here.
John - #10 [Gingers], 04-01-10 15:54I am the first one to post NON Leak gears here. If I have a house in UK, I will go for this set of English Audio culture respesentative.
- #11 [Tim], 04-01-10 19:01Leak is unique among UK amp manufacturers in the vintage period with far bigger range of tube amp introduced to the market incluiding monoblock and stereo amp using KT66, KT61, EL84, EL34, and KT88.
In the same period, Quad only offer one single model - Quad II during most of its tube amp production life.
And Radford also staying with far less model based solely on EL34 tube.
It is harder to "complete" the collection for Leak tube amp. But it is probably very rewarding.
Tim - #12 [Gingers], 04-01-10 21:02My first Leak.
- #13 [Tim], 04-01-10 21:40And Leak actually sound very good with Leak speakers (known as "Sandwich").
Tim - #14 [Gingers], 04-01-10 22:49Tim
Which model? Any chance to listen (eat) a sandwich?
John - #15 [Tim], 04-01-10 23:01We have one pair of Sandwich at VS. I will try to hook it up next week.
Tim - #16 [Tim], 04-01-10 23:03
- #17 [Tim], 04-01-10 23:04No other Leak users here except me and Gingers?
Tim - #18 [Gingers], 04-01-10 23:15There are leak users at Stereo 20 thread.
- #19 [Gingers], 04-01-10 23:22
- #20 [Tim], 04-01-11 12:32Gingers,
Did you try the original Leak pre-amp i.e. Point One or Varislope with your Leak power amp?
