- #24 [ozrayyau], 08-03-29 14:23This one? just piece of cake, It does have a power amp to drive the woofer, Mid and High not that difficult.just need alot of space and time and money only!! :-)

those hard to drive speakers are fundamentally flawed.
designers just dont know how to design a easily driven speaker to cater for more amps and expand the market.
Interesting, then what amps were used to drive them? - #36 [accudude], 08-09-22 14:40"Interesting, then what amps were used to drive them?"
I cannot remember the exact story and the who's who in it, but the story goes (in the 70s I think) that these low impedance current drawing speakers (mostly US brands) were giving the then normal low powered amps (many of them tube amps) a hard time. Then, a few designers from those speaker builders started their own amp designs that can drive low impedance loads. Brands like Counterpoint, Krell, etc., came up and "doubling wattage for every halving of impedance down to 2 ohms (sometimes even 1 ohm)" became the new "standard" in these US muscle amps. It became a pseudo-standard that we often still consider today. Of course, in actual listening, we may often find that more power does not equal better sound and horrendously difficult to drive speakers have slowly fallen out of fashion. - #37 [royce5], 08-09-22 15:11It was Apogee and Krell...
then it was Sonus Faber and Krell...what actually indirectly helped spawn the LS3/5a revival...
Ken Kessler from HFN equated the sound of Sonus with LS, then cheap folks started buying up 2nd LS and hooking them up to 200W beasts... - #38 [royce5], 08-09-22 15:12Linn Sara and Isobarik killed Naim amps for pleasure...
- #39 [Kenny], 08-09-22 21:24Electrostatic speakers, planar speakers, huge speakers with multiple drivers, all are with difficult loads -- actually, most of them, they sound quite good. Even horn speakers are not an easy load.
Some speakers are with built-in amps inside for the bass - so an amp is required to push the mid's and the high's. Below is an Evolution Acoustics (which costs USD 75K) speaker. - #40 [andyshum], 08-09-22 23:22最難推個人認為係Wilson Audio亞歷山大, 因為用咩機都推唔出好聲..
