- #429 [chinaimamn], 09-10-29 06:26Hi db4zagato,
I am glad you found Kasabian and enjoy their music. I noticed them when they performed in Glastonbury Festival 2005 which was boardcasted on BBC. I thought they sound very "Stone Roses" especially the drums. I then thought they were more close to what I called "the new Progressive Music" like the sound from Radiohead from Kid A onwards and The Muse(a Radiohead clone in my opinion).
They performed in Glastonbury Festival 2009 again but this time they made to The Pyramid Stage and well done to them. As I wrote now my wife told me that they on 26 October 2009, they won The Best Album award at the 2009 Q Awards for "West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum". Not bad for them at all. -
- #428 [chinaimamn], 09-10-29 06:13During the same time I found another Scottish band called Lowlife. When I first heard them I thought I found a band that is combined with the three bands I like: Joy Division, The Cure and The Smiths. I bought their record without checking on them.
I then realised that Lowlife is(was) again related to Cocteau Twins!! The band was managed by Brian Guthrie, brother of Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins, from 1982. Guthrie learnt that Cocteau Twins founding member and bassist Will Heggie had recently departed that band (after a lengthy and reportedly difficult European tour), he asked Heggie to help out in finishing the Lowlife album’s recording, and join them on a tour. Heggie agreed and, after the album was completed and the tour was done, he stayed on and began rehearsing new material with the band.
You could really feel that the opening bass line is very much Hooky from Joy Division and New Order. Diminuendo was their 2nd album and was released in 1987 The album received extremely positive reviews and is generally considered to be the band’s finest full-length effort. I truly believed that they were going to make it big. Sadly it never happened as they were struggling with the record companies and there was conflict within the ban. All these misfortunes had just killed the band :( - #427 [chinaimamn], 09-10-29 05:56This is their second album. It has two covers and mine is the original one having the catalogue no. LP 1988 Midnight Music, Cat# CHIME 00.27 S instead of Cat# CHIME 00.28 S.
- #426 [chinaimamn], 09-10-29 05:53Back to the Scottish bands I am sure many have known The Cocteau Twins already. They are heavily influenced by Joy Division and released their first record by 4AD.
What I am trying to talk is a band from Scotland and closely related to Cocteau Twins and 4AD. The band is Cindytalk which is an experimental music group fronted by Gordon Sharp, a Scottish performer. In 1983 Sharp recorded a John Peel session with Cocteau Twins (contributing to "Hazel" and "Dear Heart", available on some versions of Garlands as well as BBC Sessions) which led to a meeting with 4AD founder Ivo Watts-Russell who invited him to appear on This Mortal Coil's 1983 debut EP Sixteen Days/Gathering Dust. He was also one of three featured singers on the debut This Mortal Coil album It'll End in Tears (1984).
Camouflage Heart is their 1984 bebut album released by Midnight Music. There are two versions of the LP: the first copy has the "figure in the woods" image on the cover and comes with a lyric sheet; the other version has a picture sleeve and the originally intended cover of Gordon Sharp standing against a wall and this is the one I have.
Their music is as you may imagine very close to most bands from 4AD. What I prefer them to Cocteau Twins is that their music is more "thoughtful" and I particular like the piano from Sharp. They are also very similar to Sigur Ros in terms of string arrangement.

Pleasure to meet you too. Nice to read from notfat and rickymartin too. The very few talking about Rock in a Hifi forum.
Back to some music. A big discover this year: - #423 [chinaimamn], 09-10-26 18:57Hi db4zagato,
Please call me Chi and it's my pleasure to meet you and notfat and rickymartin.
Morrissey? He's still alive and pops up on the tele from time to time. He's touring at the moment. He's just as mad? confused? as ever. You know the crap result for the UK in the Euro Song Contest not long ago. He said he should write a song and he guarantees he will win ^Q^ !!
The Geisha dance, the backstage chat.....yeah those were the days..... - #422 [chinaimamn], 09-10-26 18:49I am sorry there are some typo:
"life enchanting " should be "life enhancing".
"kiddergarden" should be "kindergarten". - #421 [db4zagato], 09-10-26 18:47Hi chinaimamn,
Can't agree more. He is genius. Many people find his solo recordings boring, maybe it is sentimental, but for me it is the most beautiful music.
There is no other musician like him. As much as I liked The Smiths, I gave up Morrissey long time ago.
I wasn't at the 82 concert. I can image how much you must have enjoyed.
I just love all classic Astons. I drive a 996 now. - #420 [chinaimamn], 09-10-26 17:55Hi notfat,
I appreciate what you are trying to say. However, we could be, sometimes, irrational and sentimental about something. I would go even further to say that I could be very stubborn at times. Sleepy music to you, I mean in a good way, may be life enchanting to some. Who knows?
As for the cover art, what can I say? Some see the Sunflowers by van Gogh as a joke from a kiddergarden but many seek exploration into his artistical arms and alter ego up to the present day.
I would love to listen to his new record. May be I could tell you if it were a lullaby or a masterpiece ^_^ - #419 [notfat], 09-10-26 17:11i want to say if you can't sleep..listen new david sylvian cd,,very sleepy^^how u guys feel?

-----------------------------------------------------
You mean this ugly but talentive man? ^_^ - #415 [chinaimamn], 09-10-26 16:55BTW, are you really driving the Aston? Oh my god!!!
This is very "Hi-Fi" indeed. The drums on the opening track is just breath taking. The guitars from Fripp are like flowing stream and alwys on high quality. - #414 [chinaimamn], 09-10-26 16:51Dear db4zagato,
Oh yes, my idol indeed. Image aside he's certainly talented and sophisticated. Many may disagree with his character and behaviour in handling with his friends but he's close to perfect.
Were you there in 1982? I saw Rain Tree Cloud but sadly it was short lived :( - #413 [db4zagato], 09-10-26 11:02This is piece of ART! I just love David Sylvian, from Japan to Rain Tree Crow, with Robert Fripp, his Solo and Nine Horses. "Blemish" is suprisingly "Hifi".
