- #2 [cat7], 10-07-24 03:15Its a good amp!I've got another two models 22 and 80!
- #3 [mda], 10-07-24 10:46BD was proabably the best local commercial product in the 20th century. I like his preamp more.

- #4 [zanua], 10-07-24 11:45BD phono amp may be one of the best in the world, far better than those in the market.
- #5 [cat7], 10-07-24 11:48Now I still want to buy his 120 power amp.
- #6 [ieasti], 10-07-24 14:00甘model 28 係唔係旗艦既後級?值幾多錢度?
- #7 [cat7], 10-07-24 14:11It seems just only this in that period.
- #10 [S6410], 10-07-24 18:39BD stopped production few years back.
Latest model before closing the door included Model80, Model 800, Model160 and Model200, which are all PURE class A amps.
The earlier model 28 or 25 was only class AB and buitlt on blueprint of Krell. Sounwise OK but rought compared to Model 80/800.
Second hand price is no more than a few thousands... - #11 [S6410], 10-07-25 02:02BD's phono amp was amongst the best on earth, MUCH better than those from PassLabs.
Good drive, excellent transparency and lots of harmonics.
What was bad was it took Lau lots of time to build one. And because of the excellent components used, the burnt-in period was unexpectedly long. The new units usually sounded somewhat cold and harsh, mainly because the component was NOT run in after a few years of use!
The pre amps Model 20/10 was also excellent piece of work. Lau later use FET as an upgrade to the bipolar in both his late pre and power amp. Much richer in harmonics but costs were too high while bussiness suffered from the global financial crisis.
BD definitely belonged to the legend of the last century, although falling like most two channel systems nowadays! - #12 [syklab], 10-07-25 02:22Ching,
Do you know if Ben Lau is still in HK and how to contact him? I was one of his early customer when his shop was syill in Northpoint before moving to central. It has been a long time.
Thanks

- #14 [S6410], 10-07-25 11:46I have his mobile, although it seems he does not swith on all the time.
Pals who would like to know his number please leave your email address... - #15 [cat7], 10-07-25 11:47He's moved to 屯門.
- #16 [S6410], 10-07-25 11:49Listening to his pre and power amp and listen again to the current "high end" models, can't keep on shaking my head.
Unless one is willing to pay more than 100K for a pre amp and another 200K for a power amp, the current "famous" brands sound quite harsh and a total lack of harmonics - maybe a result of the employment of lots of integrated circuits and op amps!
Still remember the good old days where we have LOTs of turntables, LOTS of tuners and lots of tonearms to choose from! - #17 [cat7], 10-07-25 11:50I've got his mobile too! Yes, he always turn off his mobile!
- #18 [zanua], 10-07-25 15:12>>He's moved to 屯門
Shop or home? I doubt he could re-construct the production now.
>> he always turn off his mobile
Coz mobile harm to the body.
