- #21 [cdforever], 06-11-20 13:42My GX-F80 is still in top condition after I re-new the motor belt. Also it's a 3 head deck with instant monitor function. The Super GX head is still in very good condition. The sound is awesome natural still when I play back my 80's oldies, still memeorable indeed.
- #22 [com-buddy], 06-11-20 14:25Hi,
I keep cassette because my mom still ask me to record tape for her. SHe refused to use CD and said CD don't sound well!?. I have Grundig 3-head cassette and Nakamichi Dragon along with numeral mini componenets for her. Also trying a Revox A77 open wheel. Tandberg and Revox also makde good Cassette.
Despite using the meter to watch the signal up and down , the monitor mode of 3-head, Dragona and A77 do change the CD sound to analog even the tape is in pause mode. To some point I feel that it is up to LP performance. This is really obvious in A77. Still try to find out why. - #23 [com-buddy], 06-11-20 14:27This is only because one has never audit an good cassette deck, if he/she/it did, no such question will put forward!!
Trust me!!! X2 -

I own a Nakamichi Dragon, first hand. It is an absolute good piece of vintage gear. Even at today's standard, people are amazed about it's quality. Everytime when I put on the cassette tapes in my car, the passengers were always mistaken it as CDs. - #25 [com-buddy], 06-11-20 14:30It is my surprise that, after I made recording CD to evox A77 open wheel tape, the sound has substantially improve in details and full band response, lot more details come out that I never heard from the source. Isn't it strange??
- #26 [329], 06-11-20 16:39I own Akai GX95 MK II.
Great Appearance. - #27 [nickyau], 06-11-20 20:24To geo024 and com-buddy,
I admire you guys able to be the owners of the Nakamichi Dragon; and still, using the decks up to the present moment. And of course, AKAI and TEAC (the Z series) were amongst the best machines during that period too (What about Yamaha, Pioneer, Marantz.....don't fume at me for not mentioning those brands, :))
To me every time I used the deck to record the LPs was a great pleasure. Recording music into a tape using the deck made you a engineer (some sorts of...) and you were responsible for all the outcome. Preparation prior to recording was crucial. Calcuation of the total length of the music you were planning to record was important as I think fading the last song away manually when the length of the tape was not sufficient was not professional. At times I had to shorten the tape length to meet my requirement, what a waste of time, haha. And about the tape, I had to save up enough money to buy the type II tape or else I had to get the type I that I hated most (and I used most, haha). Type II tape (the TDK AD series?) did sound better to me (the highs were more) over the type III (Chromium oxide?, correct me if I am wrong) which costed a lot more, strange, huh?........too much talking...better stop here.
And finally thanks to T72BM for the link http://k-nisi.hp.infoseek.co.jp/deck2.htm
which brings me a lot of good memory and fun. - #28 [sywong], 06-11-20 21:03I still keep a Akai GX-FX MKII but seldom 'play' it nowadays.
- #29 [rickymartin], 06-11-20 21:41I have a low-model of AKIA Cassette Deck - GX-R35.
I bought it brand new around 14 years ago and I paid around HK$2300 for it.
I seldem use it after CDs become popular and cheap. Now it does not functioning well - It can reverse and forward the tape but can't play the tape. Everytime when I press the "PLAY' button,
the deck stop immediately. No idea which part of the deck has problem.
Put it into a rubbish ban seems a bit pitty. To fix it may cost more than to buy a functioning second-hand one.
If you are me, what will to do ? - #30 [cdforever], 06-11-20 22:30Hi cassette tape buddy, where can I buy a new quality cassette tape (CrO or Metal), because I want to recording some FM stations's content, like show from Albert Au's or Mr.Chan Yam, and some good music from mid-night Uncle Ray (RTHK4). They're really good show and I wish I can enjoy those show by cassette tape after may be 10-20 years later. Sound reasonable, towards me, analog still rule, whatever the future will go....
- #31 [cdforever], 06-11-20 22:40Rickymartin San,
Akai Super GX head is damp good and virtually undestructable... try to fix it up la and I think it can still play for many years wow...
---> This is only because one has never audit an good cassette deck, if he/she/it did, no such question will put forward!!
Trust me!!! X3 - #32 [戈利], 06-11-20 23:11現在只能間中見到有些非常普通的Cassette帶在那些菲、印傭集散地方出售.......................一代靚機都變得空有一身本領!
- #33 [sywong], 06-11-20 23:23rickymartin hing,
try to keep on reverse and fast forward (with a cassette tape inside) for several time and count for the time (how many seconds) necessary. After the speed become stable, maybe it is prepared to 'play' cassette again. This is what i do to warm up my deck after years of switch off and it works. - #34 [rickymartin], 06-11-20 23:37sywong,
Does you Casettle deck has the same problem as mine - Reverse and Fast Forward are OK, but only unable to Play ? I haven't used my deck for more than 10 years. Everything seems work, just only can't PLAY the tape. - #35 [cdforever], 06-11-20 23:58Rickymartin Hing,
I think you need to change the plastic belt. You can buy it in Apliu street.
Good luck. - #36 [rickymartin], 06-11-21 00:07cdforever,
Is it easy to replace the old belt with a new one?
Do you think I can do it myself ? - #37 [254mm], 06-11-21 00:12Hi, Rickymartin, is your Deck fitted with three Motors. That is one motor for forwarding, one motor for rewinding, and another one for the capstan(Playing Cassette).
Make sure this first. - #38 [cdforever], 06-11-21 00:23rickymartin,
254mm hing is right, make sure you change the belt which drive the capstan. Should be easy fix but you need to be careful for dis-assembly, get the old belt carefully and change with a new one with correct excat length. Try it yourself la. (but don't blame on me if it fail... ;-) Good luck... - #39 [cdforever], 06-11-21 00:44====> 現在只能間中見到有些非常普通的Cassette帶在那些菲、印傭集散地方出售.......................一代靚機都變得空有一身本領! <======
I want to buy TDK SA-X, or Maxell UDII, any brother know where to get them. - #40 [254mm], 06-11-21 02:05The mechanism of my 750D is quite complicated, I had to dismantle a lot of stuffs before the rubber belt can be replaced. Hope the modern models are simpler.
