- #166 [welborne], 14-07-18 16:43This is some info about the "soviet sputnik" looking Hemisphere connection with Isophon P30 12" drivers. Could be pre-cursor of modern days "satelite sound system". Usually the Isophon 太空船(each contains 6 of the same Telefunken o85 tweeters) was hanged from the ceiling. Cool!!!
- #167 [welborne], 14-07-18 16:57A side note, the Schulz coaxial is a precursor of the modern days MEG (Musikelectronic Geithain) that produces one of the most expensive studio-purpose speaker system, which is famous for its cardiord-shape radiation pattern
- #168 [skto], 14-07-18 18:49Collected over the years many information about many projects, one of them is... cloning Tekefunken o85.. So I secretly collected the tweeter units hidden inside the Isophon Hexagon tweeter units. But this project never get started.

我都係比你毒親,先開始而家塊障板。
不如等我嚟繼續,開始你的大作? 085a??? -
- #169 [geeboo], 14-07-19 07:20Hi To sir,
If you have not yet started collecting the drivers for o85/o85a, i suggest you to bid the pair o85 right now available for sale in the bay because:
1) an original pair of o85 is definitely a rarity - since o85 original target customers were studios, those which can be preserved till today is rare and can surely keep better "value" than a DIY; moreover, it is more collectible too than individual drivers. I would have presumed there is only a handful of collectors around the world who own an original pair of o85, being in their league would be a privilege, IMO.
2) I recognize if the final px were ard HK$100k, it is a very reasonable px (almost a steal - a bigger steal) compared with the costs of a DIY o85, which may be ard HK$35k-40k?
3) The mentor of Hong cFu, let's call him Petu, once said although he considered himself well-versed in electronics, after years of experiences, he finds it hard to clone a power amp with a better sonic performance than say, a mediocre Dynaco st35. I buy the logic behind that those large manufacturer's team of sound engineers and expensive laboratories are there not for nothing & it make not much sense that an amateur feverists can out perform those engineers by just cloning the circuit, adding and deleting some caps. The original design must have the rationale behind, just that some feverists might not be aware of. For o85, we are talking about German engineering in their golden manufacturing era for A TOP BRAND. 1 step to the end - one might not need another pair of speakers for classical/ big scene playback.
Of course, DIY can always get the most bang out of the money. If I have more spare pocket money And space, I wouldn't bother to write these cos I will get the pair myself (discreetly) without blinking my eyes. seriously :)
Good day

ME TOO,
肝硬化, 哈哈 - #171 [welborne], 14-07-19 12:11Agree. Thats why I never started :)
Actually cloning O85 is too much a project for me. I collected all those o85 tweeter (actually they are more like high quality small mid-high drivers) for building a large linear array baffle not too different from this picture - #172 [welborne], 14-07-19 12:12Or even this
- #173 [welborne], 14-07-19 12:26How about this? :)
- #174 [welborne], 14-07-19 12:31If i am to diy one more time, one last open baffle, it will be the same excellent Bastanis 12" combined MTM with a big and 100db/1w high efficiency ribborn horn that can crossover around 500hz with a simple first-order xover, and with bass supported by the same 18" Bastanis "ripole" bin or double it up by stacking.
Something similar to these Hawthorne open baffle - #175 [welborne], 14-07-19 12:33Close up
- #176 [welborne], 14-07-19 12:38Regarding BASS, however, according to Mr. Bastani, the best he has achieved with his open baffle is not diople/ripole, BUT. a pair of bass horn modified by him from Shearer-horn. Something similar to the bass horn in top model Avantgarde Horn I reckon.
The guy who owns this set up in the picture drives his baffle with a 2w 1626 single end amp, and the two huge bass with only a 300b single end!!!! - #177 [skto], 14-07-28 18:50
- #178 [eric300], 14-07-29 13:38Good stuffs always moving fast..too bad that I miss it..I like the 069A amp a lot. :(
- #179 [icefox_2001], 14-07-29 14:34I am greatly concern about this bid..... the V69 amp is NOT inside the cabinet......
Take a look at this photo, do you see "蘋果日報“
This photo belongs to our friend dd845.....

所以想請教在設計上,你們會怎樣選擇呢, - #184 [welborne], 14-09-10 15:02The bug of building a all-vintage open baffle has biten me, so I pushed my ebay button and won the final two pieces that allow me to build an all isophon baffle with each channel - 2x 12" woofes, 1 x 8" oval (same as Lampizator project 24) and the amazing 13cm isophon tweeter.
Crossover will more or less follow the Lampizator Project 25 "Conus Maximus" - #185 [welborne], 14-09-10 15:06As much as I love my current Crossoverless, 100db efficient dynamic fighter Bastanis........ At the back of my mind the word Vintage keep popping up frequently. Especially the 13cm isophon tweeter which has got texture that i like that i cant even find in Bastanis... Um .. Call it coloration or anything but there is something special i cant quite put in words....
