Recently, I made a pair of XLR interconnect with Berlin copper cables, deploying 2 for hot, 2 for cold, and 4 for earth and all 8 strands of cables are weaved together with 3D braiding.
The resulting audio performance is simply amazing and well received by audiophiles. DIY is fun. You should try it with, say, lan cables.
The central issue is 3D braiding, believe it or not.

Unfortunately there is no universal application for best result, everything correlate with each others such as what was the gear and where to apply and which materials were utilized (i.e plugs), one important factor which is individual preference.
In one occasion, needless to say the time had spent, I had to dissemble Mr Leung's cable completely because the sound was so BAD, what I found out it was not a fault of the cable, indeed, it was a wrong technique was being applied, IMHO "braiding" plays a crucial role for every berlin cable, difference is night and day, not just braided but make sure to braid it correctly.
To DIY a cable that suitable for one's needs, this is where the fun and hard part begins, berlin cable has such potential to make it happen.

Frankly speaking, I am not an audio specialist, nor in possession of some profound knowledge of making audio interconnect cables.
But I have accumulated lots of experiences of making DIY interconnect cables over twenty plus years of practices, using whatever cables I came across, including even the cable connecting the mouse to a computer.
I take pride in the Berlin RCA cables I am advocating, which, as concurred by many many users, have been well received and highly regarded by all of them.
這可能是『天道酬勤』that I came across the Berlin cables during a business trip there some twenty years, ago. It is, by all means, a luck.
There is no secret to my DIY Berlin RCA cables. It is just the pure copper wire of the 1960 era that matters. Also, the braiding method plays a pivotal role.
I did try, a number of times, to apply a shielding to my Berlin cables. Yet the efforts were in vain, yielding no improvements in the resulting audio performance. - #16 [LeungSir], 22-01-08 10:26Hi there, I share your idea of adding a shield to interconnect cables to screen off EMI interference for a "darker " or quieter audio background.
However, such an arrangement may not always work 100% as expected without any drawbacks.
For braided cables like the ones I am advocating, adding a shield to braided cables may weaken the performance of the cables in terms of agility, 空氣感,彈跳力,活潑感,以及具血肉的質感, although at times a negligibly quieter background is achieved.
Regular braiding pattern itself is a commendable means to do away EMI interference and is the best economical method to achieve transmitting pure audio signal without loss of agility. It is highly regarded by a 攝影和音響前輩李祖斌大師。

Happy New Year!
Tks for your sharing on diy cables! I have been following your advice and did some braiding. It's fun!
I'd like to ask n seek your opinion on adding metal shielding in the braided cable. Some people emphasize that shielding can do more benefits to get a silence background. Would there be other factors?
Hear from you! ?? - #14 [LeungSir], 22-01-02 10:37
There are ways to braid 4 strands of wires, namely the round braiding or 3D braiding.
The following video vividly demonstrates how a 3D braiding is done.
One can apply the braiding to make RCA or speaker or power cables.
Many of my "audio acquaintances" share the joy of DIY cables.

- #12 [LeungSir], 21-12-20 14:38
Recent discussions with Audiophiles on DIY cables including interconnect cables, speaker cables and power cables confirm repeatedly that braiding the strands of wire contributes to better sound staging in terms of the enhanced extent of clarity and richness on details along with a, wider and deeper audio image.
Try braided DIY cables. You will not be disappointed. - #11 [rcywong], 21-12-11 11:03DIY cable is fun indeed, no matter the result is good or not, it is an enjoyment. Ha...ha.
Add oil to Mr. Leung - #10 [LeungSir], 21-12-11 10:36
There is no secret about my DIY Berlin RCA interconnect cables. However, I will attribute the amazingly wonderful audio image the cables manage to convey to four key factors:
1. the adorable pure quality of virgin copper wires of the 1960 era made in Germany ;
2.the way the copper wires are being braided into a cable;
3.the configuration of having more negative wires than the positive; and
4.the soldering method to enable direct access / contact of the positive terminal of the cable to reach the target destination.
The photo enclosed herewith illustrates the braiding of 8 strands of wires into a cable of 2 positive & 6 negative interconnect a cable, which is designated as "2+6" .
Finally, I would add that there is always an optimal length of the RCA cable in order to attain quality audio performance while the presumptive idea that "the shorter the better" may not be valid.
Audiophiles may take the initiative to try making RCA cables with readily available wires like those obtained from telephone / lan cables. It simply is fun especially when auditioning one's DIY handcraft cable.
Have a nice weekend. - #9 [hc21924900], 21-11-27 22:22“No cable can improve the sound quality of a system, they only make it worse or less worse in varying degrees."
