I have no knowledge on your amp. Seem users of LS3/5A like using el34 tube amp. Personally, I like KT66 amp.

You amp has a very good appearance. My tube amps are old and urgly.
John - #45 [Tim], 03-06-07 23:15"記得Tim哥話越大力越正,"
No, I did not say it like that.
For tube amp driving LS3/5a, best is 12W-35W. Anything above 40W is not as good.
For SS amp, best is over 300W Class A with very high damping factor (best with monoblock). Anything less is not as good.

Welcome! No need to introduce. Tim is an expert in both tubes related gears and LS3/5A.
BTW, my EICO ST84 arrived yesterday. It is really a very good pre amp and it kicks my Audio Research LS7 away by far. It also matched my Leak TL/12.1 perfectly.
John - #47 [Tim], 03-06-08 00:10Congrulation, Mr Gingers.
Indeed, the ST84 is one of the most under-rated pre-amp made. Did you find it sound better than Richard's FP-modified HF-85?
We have not have LS3/5a club party for a while. Maybe time to plan for the next one.
Tim - #48 [Tim], 03-06-08 00:11For KEF Piano, I prefer bi-wire.
Tim - #49 [Tim], 03-06-08 00:12Maybe we should ask siufaifai to join us for the "Best integrated amp for LS3/5a?" party.

My HF85 is on the way. Richard is no longer alone. Hope other users of LS3/5A post more pictures to share.

Thanks - #54 [Richard], 03-06-08 00:54Ginger just told me that there should be at least 3 pairs of RAM sold to Hong Kong. Photo is reposted. Hope the link works.

May I know the price of your VAC amp?
it's very nice

Richard Allan may be also rare in Hong Kong. I know knoe Roy has one pair.
John - #58 [Richard], 03-06-08 01:01RA is in current production. Anybody can buy a pair if they are happy with the price. So, RA is NOT rare. But vintage 15 ohm is different.
- #59 [Richard], 03-06-08 01:12Tim,
Just noted your post about EICO ST-84 and HF-85 preamps. John's ST-84 showed that indeed ST-84 has excellent sounding. So, my very satisfactory experience is not an isolated incident.
Regarding HF-85, a member of the EICO group recently reported good results of the FP mod, same as I obtained some months ago as the mod's proposer. However, my recently arrived HF-85 in absolutely stock form also has very good sound, just unlike my first HF-85 before the FP mod. Maybe you should hear both and John's ST-84 to judge for yourself. :)
Yes, I agree with John that the EICO preamps are great matching vintage tube power amps in driving LS3/5A speakers.
