yes, u're right! 自從三年前買了M3, 之后都只系上過elephant一兩次, 因為吾買野都不好意思成日去.
could u inform us roughly the price of new M2, M3 & M6 linestage without phono? - #43 [F2aYeung], 05-12-08 21:17ZOOpaLAST,
I remember la! I also read from HIFI Review the M6 Mk2 use OB2 tube like M9 and M10. I am not sure about the ECL82 is also used or not. How many tubes are there in the power supply board?
Below from AN website:
The power supply itself uses two stabilised units using a 6X5 rectifier, an ECL82 stabiliser and an OB2 reference glow tube. The stabiliser is of proprietry design and uses a similar technology to that of the M10 power supply. -

In fact, the M2 is very close to M3 mk1 and M3 mk2 is very close to M6 mk1.
Just some info to share (for reference only):
M2 - $25K
M3 mk2 -$36K
M6 mk2 - $68K - #45 [viwong], 05-12-08 21:27請問M8大概幾錢,咁M6 MK II是否好接近M8
- #46 [ZOOpaLAST], 05-12-08 21:27F2ayeung
The M6 has a stereo power supply which uses 1 x 6X5 , 1 x ECL82 and 1 x OB2. There is also a small PCB mounted with a 16 pins IC next to the tube regulated board. - #47 [ZOOpaLAST], 05-12-08 21:32viwong
List price of M8 is $180K, I don't know the exact selling price.
As F2a mentioned, this is a hugh sonic different between M6 and M8.
FYI, M10 is listing at $460K. - #48 [F2aYeung], 05-12-08 22:01ZOOpaLAST,
In that case M6 Mk2, M9 and M10 use similar PS circuitry.
Yes, M8 sounds much smoother and silvery than M6. I compared both in Elephant before. I also auditioned the new M10 at the hifi show in Langham Place. It sounds quite good driving Roksam ss amps. - #49 [tiger.woods], 05-12-08 22:04i paid $ 160k , very happy haha
- #50 [tiger.woods], 05-12-08 22:05haha
- #51 [F2aYeung], 05-12-08 22:10ZOOpaLAST,
One side question. I notice in other thread you are using the Chinese TP1 Lowther too. I auditioned it many times before driven by Chinese tube amps and never like it but last week I tried it again in a BJ high hand home. The bass sounds very good and the mid high is also excellent. Even better than the original vintage TP1. May I know where did you get your pair in HK and how much is it? - #52 [ZOOpaLAST], 05-12-08 22:23F2aYeung
I get the TP1 London boxes from GuangZhou. As there is no more stock within China, I can only take the demo units from the GuangZhou shop. The total bill is nearly HK$10K including the shippment and door to door delivery.
I think TP1 London is specially good when match with the PM4A unit, which demands a front horn as well. The problem now is that the PM4A is too sensitive with my 300B SE, so I have to turn the gain of my preamp down to -17dB in order to match with the level settings.
The sound from this UK-China combo is so real, live and musical. - #53 [F2aYeung], 05-12-09 08:08ZOOpaLAST,
Too bad! Not available in HK.
AN is offering modification of their amps from double stage 6SN7 to single stage 6J5. Maybe you can ask Elephant or other high hands to modify your 300B amps.
Below from AN website
Low Gain Versions of all Compact Chassis Amplifiers are now available.
With the emergence of more and more highly efficient speakers Andy and I felt earlier in 2004 that we needed to target the market for these, about the same I had had the opportunity to buy a large quantity of 6J5s, which is a valve I had always sought to buy, but never managed to find more than a few.
Accordingly in the July 2004 pricelist we started offering a low gain version of all the amplifiers in the Compact range, Conqueror to KEGON, which much in between as most of you will know and those of you who don't have not studied the pricelist!
Again we have made a major upgrade sound wise when the two stage 6SN7 was pulled out, the circuit rewired and replaced with a single stage 6J5, the input sensitivity dropped dramatically, but then so did the hum and noise and in addition it cleaned the sound up enormously, making them perfect for 96dB plus efficient speakers.
The high gain versions of all the Compact amplifiers are still available, but have now been relegated to "special order" where you have to specify that you want a high gain version, otherwise we will automatically put the order through production as a low gain.
Upgrades will be offered to all older Compacts amplifiers whether a Conqueror or a pair of KEGON's or Baransu's, the cost of these will be calculated over the next few weeks, so inquire when necessary. - #54 [ZOOpaLAST], 05-12-09 12:52F2aYeung

I guess that the price you mentioned refer to the old version of M3 and M6. Beside the hardware upgrade of mk1 to mk2, the pricing is also revised.
Correct me if I'm wrong!
