Speakers are not pure resistive. I wonder if the waveform shown on a CRO is a good looking sine wave?

Easy, play your favourite music, and use a CRO to read the output connected to your speaker. Check if there is any CLIPPED waveform esp. at low frequencies.
Or, use a signal generator connected to your pre-amp, set at 50Hz to 80Hz, and drive your speaker and read the output of the power amp using a CRO. Turn up the volumn slowly. If the CRO still shows a perfect sine wave and the speaker is already bottom out, then the speaker cannot handle the power of your amplifier.
You may also check the specifications of the amp and speaker to see if their power output and input figures are matched. But there is some tricks to decide a proper power level during this case.

一水般而言, 聽一首歌開大聲時，感覺到啲聲開始變差, 通常都是amp的問題, 我曾以幾萬元的amp去推幾佰元喇叭, 開大聲也沒事, 你所指的聲音變差, 是否聲音變尖, 拆聲, 這是失真,失控的徵兆
