When everybody would just go for the lowest price regardless of service provided, how do you expect the shops and their sales to behave? Which store/sales would be stupid enough to provide you with quality service when the odd is that you would be going to buy from the next store for just $50 cheaper?
When I was in T.O., the hifi shops scene was quite different from that in HK. People buying quality hifi products (i.e. non-mass market stuff) would not mind paying a slight premium such that they could get quality services such as single speaker pair demo, pre-booked demo room for products comparison ... The sales were quite knowledgeable as well. At least, they would not dare to BS insubstantial claims. On the other hand, the typical consumers would seldom take advantage of the service and then purchase from the discount store down the road. Shopping for quality hifi in T.O. was a much better experience than that in HK.
