The film and the soundtrack(especially Run Like Hell) still thrilling to me till this date.
- #3307 [Ultrasonic], 25-07-01 12:03
We all like them for one reason or another, they are guilty pleasures. :-) -
- #3306 [twinggy], 25-07-01 11:34Haha agree ^^
Cheapy like me love chessy movies, especially those from the 70’s n 80’s. - #3305 [Ultrasonic], 25-07-01 03:08
The film is also quite cheesy. ? But then again, most HK action films during that era were also cheesy. Only Bruce Lee and a few others movies stood the test of time.
It is kind of fun to look at the old HK from the aerial view with all the old structures that may or may not be around anymore.
Jimmy Wang is not the only gangster film star during that time, although he might be the most well-known one. - #3304 [Twinggy], 25-06-30 14:53Sorry for the typo, should be Jardine House ^^
- #3303 [twinggy], 25-06-30 14:36Tks for sharing this cheesy but fun song from the film 《直搗黃龍》. As a bonus the video also shows the police academy at Wong Chui Hang and the then tallest building in Asia , the Connaught Building aka Jarfine House in present day, which is nostalgia at its best !^^
AFAIK the OST album , other than its LP version, wasn’t available on CD format until a few years back, when the Blu ray was released which included this as a complimentary disc. Even today if you’re interested in the OST you have to look for this blu ray OST combo. ^_^
P.S. Isn’t it a bit ironic for Jimmy Wang to play a cop ? - #3302 [Ultrasonic], 25-06-29 06:35
Classic hit song - Sky High, by the band Jigsaw, used as the intro soundtrack for "The Men from Hong Kong". Starting Jimmy Wang Yu, Sammo Hong and George Lazenby(ex-Bond). - #3301 [Ultrasonic], 25-06-29 06:33.

^^ - #3299 [fotheringay], 25-06-19 21:03
- #3298 [fotheringay], 25-06-19 20:55
- #3297 [fotheringay], 25-06-19 01:31
Revisiting The Grandmaster OST and never got tired of this music.
My all-time favourite Hong Kong/China movie, I never like 章子怡 but I thought she was the most outstanding actor in The Grandmaster, even much more better than梁朝偉.
The deep inner sorrow but strong outside, nonetheless always elegant and that's very hard to perform. She nailed it perfectly. I was completely in love with her character. - #3296 [twinggy], 25-06-14 13:39Fotheringay Hing,
Tks for sharing your heart warming story & videos. Seeing your great found, even more so at such reasonable prices, left me nothing but envy haha.
I would have jumped at the chance were I in the same scenario ! ^^
P.S. Funny though I’m the kind of guy whom women label as antiromantic. - #3295 [fotheringay], 25-06-12 22:45
In the same record store I bought some records, OST and Rock and among them this is the one got me most excited and surprised!!!
A record I have been searching for more than 30n years and finally I got it!!!
Like Guinness said "God things go to those who wait" - #3294 [fotheringay], 25-06-12 22:20
Bought some OST records last week, some from Oxfam and some from my friend's record store next to it.
It was an exciting day but another kind of record, and the story to be told in next thread.
2025-06-12 22:36:45 - #3293 [twinggy], 25-05-22 14:50The HK we used to know has been fading at an alarming speed.
No longer a place suitable for nostalgia. ^_^ - #3292 [fotheringay], 25-05-22 01:20
Very sad indeed as I had many fond memories with Grand Ocean.
Apart from the main blockbuster movies from the West it was also the main venue for the so called "cult movie" from the Hong Kong International Films Festival.
The most notable one was The Poseidon Adventure which had meaning in my life.
When I was in secondary school I had a good classmate who was like my best buddy. Suddenly he was not attending school any more and I thought he must be ill.
Then one day when leaving school I saw him by the school gate. He was waiting for us and I was happy to see him.
It turned out that his family had decided to move to USA and he would be flying in two weeks. We had a long chat and a small group of us decided we should eat in Pizza Hut and checking out who could make the tallest salad bowl.
We also went to see The Poseidon Adventure which was shown in the Grand Ocean Cinema at the time. - #3291 [twinggy], 25-05-20 15:38
