這是打算買新天朗要認真思考的問題。。。 - #3001 [fotheringay], 22-04-03 17:24
Then the another journey with making a new extended box for this pair of MG 10" which many may deem not quite up there with the bigger brothers.
I think it could only be fair to say bigger the better with Tannoy DC.
The argument could then go on and go on with some say Gold is not as good as Red. Then, some will say both Gold and Red get no where near Silver.
Another guy from the next table then say "What about Black?"
Ha, ha......
At this stage of my stereo experience they all sound the same to me. The only difference is what music they are playing in front of me. -

My journey with Tannoy DC Speakers is really like Joni's "The CIrcle Game".
It's going round and round again in a circle game, having owned MG 15" Lancaster and 12" Chatsworth before. - #2999 [fotheringay], 22-04-03 17:21

Not sure if she is to everybody's taste.
And I mean the MG 10, ha, ha........
Joking aside, Cassandra covers well with this less known U2 song from Achtung Baby.

Some classic Dire Straits.

I think I have some silicon brushings that I may apply between the speakers and the feet.
They are used for surgical external fixators but removed from a patient.
Tonight I finished the second speaker. It's more or less done inside but I haven't put any wood stain or wooden panels yet.
I just can't wait to hear the pair together.
First auditioning will be some New Age music from Windham Hill compilations. - #2995 [rover901], 22-04-01 10:09#2993
The video is a good one, clearly explained
I use this one with similar concept

each system behave individually / differently
i suppose no scientist can offer pin point reason from those questions... especially without measurement too , and our ear is part of the measurement device..
especially ..music is quite random
system is beyond speaker and the stand too.... system in a sense inclduing the most critical "the listener".., as we hear differently
we can always measure or only able to measure data at some less critical indirect spot/position/area etc.. of the system...
our hearing may not be reliable too, but we feel nicer or worst.. also a fact too
not exactly related but this video may offer some inspiration
less tightening screw... can be less coupling or better and less compression path for lets energy go too.... less than simple.. even it is not complicate

Just when I said you can’t use power tool and guess what I did!
I thought I could set to torque 4 and it should be fine. And I then snapped off the screw head!
Need to order more just in case. - #2991 [rover901], 22-03-31 12:25that I have no idea.
but i have similar experience
My speaker stand is a "floating" type studio professional stand, used for supporting table top monitor spk or heavy guitar amp cabinet (different model/size with same concept), which is indeed against "firm support of spk for better definition and bass" concept, but I get good result from the stand supporting my turnberry.
I am no scientist, no scientific explanation on this kind of physics behaviour - #2990 [fotheringay], 22-03-31 04:59The Gold Alloy Bolts have arrived.
Much lighter and so they have to be careful to tighten by hand so it is not as tight as using the steel bolts with power tool.
That said it sounds more lively. I googled it and some suggested that Tannoy has never over tighten the DC units.
Can anyone elaborate this information?

chi hing the sound seems quite lively, i like it :) - #2987 [w.lo.bc], 22-03-30 00:41A very good friend of mine, he is an audiophile like you with hearing impairment on one side.
He can't tell the depth and sound stage but he is very good with music tone and transparency of system. He has the hearing issue since early age. It didn't stop him from becoming a serious classical music lover.
He owns a pair of extremely rare Tannoy corner GRF with 15" silver. - #2986 [fotheringay], 22-03-29 05:11@w.lo.bc
Thanks for the advice which is much appreciated.
It's still early stage as I haven't completed the other one yet.
Also, I need to experiment with different damp materials(wool, foam etc.) to find out if they indeed make a difference.
I have to say apart from giving the MG a new box I tend to keep everything original.
I don't have any audiophile hearing and perhaps changing the caps would not help and in fact I only have one able ear which is supported with hearing aid. The other side is dead!!!
Thanks anyway and I will keep it updated as soon as I have new details. - #2985 [w.lo.bc], 22-03-29 01:44If you plan to keep the gold monitor, I highly recommend you upgrade all internal wiring, bypass the energy selector, replace all electrolytic capacitors. That will give you much better transparency and better bass without losing tannoy signature tone.
The flip side is you need to remove all metal rivets which is irreversible.
I had done such modification on several pairs of 12 and 15" gold. - #2984 [fotheringay], 22-03-28 17:18
Since just one being completed so I thought why not playing mono with a single speaker.

Which series equivalent to Tannoy are they making? It will be interesting to compare. Not necessary to replace each other but to complement their achievement.
I mentioned that I ordered some raw jacob sheep wool. They are so smelly and full of grass so I have to bleach them for couple days before use.
Today is sunly so it's about time to dry them.
