- #42 [grape], 04-01-18 01:05Dear John and other friends,
I really enjoy today and after the party I could not control myself but went to Tak Fat. Then I late for the next appointment.
I am now looking forward for similar occasions to audit different vintage gears, and get one to match my 35a in the small bed room. I think I could not affort to collect so much due to the limited space and finanical outlay.
As the most enjoyable issues today, apart from the vintage gears, the chicken wings were really good.

- #46 [*DIY*], 04-01-19 11:56Dear Leak fans, What type of components will you use when you restoring your Leak gears?
- #47 [grape], 04-01-19 12:09Dear lo5boy,
Please refer to the stearo 20 that now displaying in go2hk. There are 4 photo links that showed the inside and outside of the amp.
Would you please advise me
(a) Is that amp being altered, if so, to what extent?
(b) How much I need to make it sound well?

Dear Leak fans, What type of components will you use when you restoring your Leak gears?
------------------------------------------------
For 0.25uF coupling capacitors:
I am using Jensen capacitors in my Leak TL/12 Plus, Hovland capacitors in my Leak Stereo 50, Russia military capacitors in my Stereo 20.
I am so lucky to have ten original TCC capacitors for my pair of Leak TL/12 Point One.

For the cheap price, this capacitors is quite good.

Agree?
John - #50 [lo5boy], 04-01-19 13:43grape hing,
the pic shown that the psu smoothening caps were replaced by modern e-caps (blue colour) at their side. coupling caps were replaced with wima. the amp is not in very good shape but considering the price, it is a worth considering. the current price for a good looking stereo 20 is about 300-400 sterling pounds (shipping excluded). the only worry I have is the replacement of the 100 Ohm resistor with a high power resistor and the additional fuse connected to the power transformer.
In any case, if all transformers are intact, restoration will not be too difficult.
the best way is to test the amp and find out how it sounds. - #51 [lo5boy], 04-01-19 13:48the russian caps are good although not the best. the high frequency response is clear.
there is little colouration with the russian caps. knowing the price of it, it is worth trying best buying expensive caps. - #52 [Gingers], 04-01-19 13:50

See the TCC capacitors.

- #57 [*DIY*], 04-01-19 15:33Hi John,
I have some brand new TCC 0.25uF and 0.50uF capacitors in hands too...
But for 16uF + 16uF and 50uF/50vDC, I found that they are very hard to find a replacement. Any good suggestion?
Thanks, Raymond - #58 [Gingers], 04-01-19 15:38*DIY*
I will try to post some US capacitors photos I am using. They can be found at Hung Kwong Building in Tung Choi Street, a shop near Max's.

Are you a Leak user? Curious to know. Did I meet you before?
John - #60 [grape], 04-01-19 15:56Lo5boy and brothers here,
Thanks a lot for your information. I think I would rather give myself sometime to familar with the vintage gears before jumping into any selection. As I am still green in the electronic areas so I cannot fix the amp by myself. Anyway, looking forward for the party to try the gears and chat you guys more.

Oh yes, the TL12.1 is in a different class compare to the other amp including the over-rated M8b. You need amp with very good iron e.g. the vintage Willamson or other vintage amp with Partridge transformers to be comparable with TL12.1.
It does not earn its reputation as the best sounding amp ever made for nothing.
