- #163 [lmceric84], 20-04-28 23:20My 7054 was sold by my friend last week. But He lent me to try for half year to make decision. I was not serious to audit it and thought these kind of digital cables/enhancer was snake oil. One day when I re-connected the cables and forgot to put the 7054 on, even my 2 yrs old daughter complained her favourite Frozen songs was worse xd..... then I seriously tried it and found it can play smoother, quite background, clear music instrument positioning. Comparing to those hifi cables, it is cheap but really work for me. I connect it between mac mini and adi-2.

Thx you for your suggestion , which model you are using ( 7054 or 7054X)? could you tell my what improvement of this isolator ? - #161 [Cnn], 20-04-28 21:45i almost used 2 y to seek a good DAC for upgrading fm mytek 192( it is a good DAC) , at last i narrowed down my target in mytek brooklyn, ifi pro idsd and brought IFI but i week later i sold it BC it not matched my system.
due to the cheaper cost i looked down RME b4, but i tried it causally with brroklyn in Tsang Fook 's show room, it surprised me in bass performance and sound stage.
RME in my system( Harbeth SHL5 with Densen pre+power) produce a very 3D relax feeling with enjoyable bass which is not heard B4. - #160 [lmceric84], 20-04-28 21:43Recommend to add a usb isolator between streamer and rme. I heard significant improvement after adding Intona usb isolator on it.
- #159 [teruhata], 20-04-28 21:19158 Good to hear ching, mind to share what speaker and amp are you using? Does the RME produce a good analogue sound? Before you get did you compare with another brand of DAC
- #158 [Cnn], 20-04-28 21:13I am using RME with Lumin U1 mini via USB for streaming Tidal and use it with Cd player via co- axial.
For sure CD performaning with RME is the best in my system but Lumin is very close. - #157 [teruhata], 20-04-28 01:19師兄,想了解一下用RME駁AA出嚟嘅聲屬於咩類型
- #156 [teruhata], 20-04-27 19:56155 I got the same D series but D2 instead which has the exact same features built in.
I knew some Ching is using U1 mini as a transport and hook up an external DAC thru usb. Like you said really need to do an AB testing to compare with or without transport to see which sounds the best. But I always have the feeling that the sound quality is mainly base on the DAC itself, although the built of the transport may have some improvement (just my thought..never prove it)
There is another option I saw other Ching did is to can get the io data Soundgenic as a NAS+music server to go with RME. But not sure if the USB port of Soundgenic is compatible with RME.
Any Ching can able to confirm as such? - #155 [kayue], 20-04-27 19:03152 you are correct.
I’m connecting my RME with a headless PC usb (Pi)
D1 is meant to be a streamer with DAC. I didn’t know what Lumin product you were using.
They have U1 mini as transport.
Anyway for that price I would probably get a Roon or Audirivan instead, to me software is key in a streamer. But that is just me who don’t think digital transport make a big different. - #154 [gchan2001], 20-04-27 18:57[#148] Exactly, i feel good at all my volume settings with auto loudness. High volume without distortion and at low volume without loss of details. RME engineers did a very good job here.
[149#] My RME dac pass to my HF85 and Class A solid state power amp. It complements with the weakness of HF85 in which the volume control is troublesome and now i have a remote control on volume. I'm very happy with the sound. Hopefully this is my endgame setup. - #153 [1186], 20-04-27 18:33Hi
Anyone try it with a CD player ? - #152 [teruhata], 20-04-27 18:29Kayue, if you get rid of the D1 and replaced with RME. Do you connect it using USB from the NAS or another music server? As far as I know D1 doesn’t have usb output therefore it limited to 24/192 only in this case, however if the connection is thru USB from RME the format of DSD256/512 can be utilized. This way D1 is kinda no much function can be use in this case. Am I on the right track?
- #151 [lmceric84], 20-04-27 18:11In my experience, Rme ~ or litter bit better than Luxman d-06 and outperformed Sony hap-z1es.
- #150 [kayue], 20-04-27 18:07I tried Lumin D1 before, sold it in a week and then bought the RME.
RME reveal more texture in the music.
If you are keeping your Lumin as streamer and perform upsampling then I believe it will preserve its "musical" sounds. I personally found that upsampling in generate create smoother sounding. (Tried Lumin, Roon and Audirvana) - #149 [teruhata], 20-04-27 18:00Thanks for your detail explanations, really helpful and give more confident on picking it. In general, I see quite many audiophile use this DAC on their active speakers. Does anyone here can share if you guys hook it up with a solid state or tube 2ch amp. I am using McIntosh int amp and pair with 804D3, wonder if the DAC is a good match with Mc and speaker.
- #148 [lmceric84], 20-04-27 17:32Auto ref level doesn’t relate to eq setting. The Line Out defaults to Auto Ref Level enabled. The current volume setting is then shown as dBr (dB relative), and the unit automatically switches to the matching hardware reference level to optimize the dynamic range.
Auto Ref is just an automated switch between the 4 output levels, allowing to optimize the resolution of the DAC.
For example, theorically, it's better to be at level output +1 dBu @ 0 dB (volume command), than +13 dBu (level output) @ -12 dB on the volume command. With the second example, you don't have all the dynamic of the DAC chip (I said "theorically", because you won't actually hear the difference).
So yes, you can use Auto ref and adjust the volume with the ADI-2 knob: the ADI will automatically set the best output level for you.

At first I was plan to go to the dealer for audition but it’s hard to tell if its gonna be a good fit into my home system. According to many western forums ppl comments this dac seems work pretty well not only on headphone setup but also on hifi system too. I am also a Lumin user, my concern is whether the sound with this dac will be much more musical and analogue, also less digital. I am not good at playing with EQ setting , how does it sound if just leave to auto? Thanks
- #146 [gchan2001], 20-04-27 13:15I don't think so as the new version launched only a few months and Thomson guaranteed that 30-day money-back guarantee.
The B-stock also enjoys Thomann full 3 yrs warranty and 30-day money-back guarantee. I also have confidence in RME products reliability.
Honestly, i'm quite impressed with this dac for my main system; headphone performance and its versatility. I can feel the Auto Ref Level gives me the best quality of sound at all volume. - 下一頁 (6 of 14)
