- #68 [tonylaibach], 15-07-24 12:22Dear all,
Are there any relations between the Rogers BBC LS3/6, the Spendor speakers, and the Chartwell Studio 1? They look uncannily similar.

--------------------------------------
That seems to be a study on public admin or business admin, rather than a study on the audio industry. The scope of study is too narrow to qualify a pass in my view. :)
最後修改時間: 2013-07-10 15:16:55 - #66 [timtube], 13-07-10 15:12Our friend, Karl Jones, who collects BC1 and LS3/6 once told me that he cannot find any sonic difference between BC1 and LS3/6.
To me, we should at least compare the following to figure out which version is the best:
- Early BC1 with blue alnico driver
- Later BC1 with ferrite driver
- BC1 Germany
- Rogers LS3/6
- Stirling LS3/6 Mk2 - #65 [timtube], 13-07-10 15:06It was just a hobby subject of much interest to me.

The LS5/12 was actually an "unauthorised" design within the BBC! - #63 [rcwy], 13-07-10 15:00Tim,
You deserve a R33's PhD for your studies into BBC speakers and amps. :)
I understood from Limage that the Rogers version LS3/6 is best sounding amongst different production BC1's. Any chance to hear that Rogers? (and will be fair to the speakers in hear in Limage's audio room (or mine if don't mind).
最後修改時間: 2013-07-10 15:02:54 - #62 [timtube], 13-07-10 14:52To me, there is no doubt that the LSU/10 is the mother of all "BBC Monitors". It was created because BBC could not find any commercial speakers (including those from Tannoy and Lowther) that met the BBC technical standard/requirements.
And this started the tradition of BBC design and built their own speakers in-house.
Things changed in the late 1960's and early 1970 with LS3/5A and LS3/6 when the BBC decided to "outsource" the manufacturing process to outside firms such as Rogers and Chartwell and to allow such firms to produce commercial models under the BBC licenses.
That "outsourcing" proved to be very difficult to the commercial firms as they found it unexpectedly hard to meet the BBC specifications.
It was believed that BBC had made various compromises with the later models so that commercial production can continue. - #61 [icefox_2001], 13-07-10 12:39nice stuff. so LS5/5 is the mother of all things!
- #60 [timtube], 13-07-10 11:12Took me awhile but I think I finally worked out the lineage of the various BBC Studio Monitor Speakers.
- #59 [timtube], 13-07-05 17:31I have not heard the original Rogers LS3/6 and one of my friends, who collected BC1 and LS3/6, told me that they sound almost the same.
BC1 was actually the result of the original BBC LS3/6 project. Spendor Hughes was working for BBC at that time and was developing a smaller speaker based on the LS5/5. Before the completion of this project (later known as LS3/6), he left and found Spendor to product the BC1 commercially. BBC later on completed the LS3/6 project with Rogers and it was Rogers who produced the final LS3/6. And Rogers further developed the LS3/6 (for better power handling)to become the Rogers Export Monitor.
So BC1, LS3/6 and Rogers Export Monitor should all be similar but not exactly the same.

- #54 [chinaimamn], 12-05-05 05:12When living in Hong Kong I used to own a pair of Spendor BC1 bought secondhand from a friend. It was my first serious pair of speakers and were driven by a Scott-Fisher receiver.
30 years on I got it back again. Ar..........not exactly as it was a BC1A and a BCIIA.
It was used by BBC before and went to private studios and home users. - 下一頁 (1 of 4)
