No, the sound of HQD did excite me very much, by that time the performance was unbeatable. The DQ alone still OK but not as rich. No need guessing, you may ask HiFi senior (Godfather) does the combination of different type of driving units work OK under Electronic crossover.
No need to wonder how the phasing and speed of different drivers work together. After you try it you will understand. Also, Mark Levinson is not crazy, his dreaming is always pioneer. Actually I gain a lot of fun in carrying out his crazy ideas.
The DQ should sound in better manner or not will be very clear after you have built up your own DQ.
SME's boss once putting up sixteen ESL one side on photo. I guess he understand very well that the bass produced from ESL is proportional to the area of the driving panels
Now, I think it is hard to find anybody in HK still running a pair of the HQD system at home. But I remember one senior Mr. NG in Macau may be still using one similar system. His DQ is replaced by a pair of Acoustat. -

BIG thanks!

a) will get you more Baileys
b) will comply with your wishes - #4181 [dkyyu], 07-08-17 00:12Radford T100 to drive DQ. STA25 for DECCA High and Big Q to drive 24" Hartley

I guess Gingers, rwcy and DD must be mouth watering while reading it.
Dear dnch,
If the sound of HQD did not excite you enough, how about the DQ alone? By guessing, the HQD must be a different kind of hybid when putting ESL and clone drivers altogether.
I wonder how the phasings and speed of different drivers work together. Mark Levinson must be crazy and dreaming all days.
Well, solely with all electrostatic panels, the DQ should be sounding in better manner with more control. I've seen SME's boss once putting up sixteen ESL one side on photo.
Now, anybody in HK still running a pair of the HQD system at home? - #4180 [rcwy], 07-08-17 00:07Feikeung,
Two things..
a) Thanks for the sample bottle of Baileys chocolate wine which is extremely tasty. Very nice!
b) Don't forget my request for your pair of ESL to stop over to try at my workshop, before they may leave HK. Thanks in advance.
Richard

Hearing is believing. I look forward to a serious auditioning.
the company's main aim is to be able to use ordinary (a.k.a. low cost) amplifiers to get good sound in an ordinary room

"....... or does that honor fall to the King Sound full-range electrostatic ($6000/pair), from King" Audio Limited, of China? While playing back Schubert's Impromptus with the aid of JoLida tube monoblocks ($8000/pair), the Kings placed the solo piano about 3’ behind the plane of the speakers. When I closed my eyes, the illusion was almost tactile. But why close my eyes? The visual appeal of lamplight shining through the Kings’ honeycomb stat panels made the grilleless speakers resemble artistic room dividers. If I owned the Kings, I would remove their grillecloths (a ten-second job) and do all my listening in the nude -- the speaker, that is.-------------Jim Saxon"
USD8,000 a pair JoLida amp is anything but "low cost". - #4178 [dkyyu], 07-08-16 23:08Dear Dr King,
One condition. Don't give your tubes to me for free as I owe you too much favour and I'm feeling guilty.
Same place 10:00am. I wish to take you to an old but renowned restaurant for lunch. - #4177 [Taimonsing], 07-08-16 22:56It's quite diffcult to visit your place within working hour. Are you available in Sat morning?

Jesus was born in a small stable, and as far as I know, the King's Audio loudspeakers were also born in a small room. Their display room I visited last time was some 300 sq. ft. large, and King's Audio's Master Liu (a friend of mine) said that many good reviews of the King came out of even smaller rooms (around 200 sq.ft.) from the '05 CES and '06 London Heathrow shows. It was only in '07 CES that they booked an 800 sq. ft. room for the Emperor.
Also, as far as I know, the company's main aim is to be able to use ordinary (a.k.a. low cost) amplifiers to get good sound in an ordinary room, so that customers can be easily satisfied by their loudspeakers.

Richard - #4175 [drwkng], 07-08-16 21:58shall meet Dr King this Saturday morning my place

dennis,
i just found 2 more 6c33c from my cabinet so i will bring them with me this saturday. - #4174 [dkyyu], 07-08-16 21:46Dear dnch,
Yeah, I knew it. At such a highest HQD level, I knew you must be using Bedini at that time as I was told Bedini was such a greatest amp ever.
When my second pair of QUAD ESL arrived later this year, would you mind lending me a hand as well as your expertise on double QUAD to adjust the ESL for me before my show-off to CP, Feikeung and Limage? - #4173 [dkyyu], 07-08-16 21:39I bet except Limage, none of us had have any chance listening to any HQD system before

Dear CP
You have to pardon me as 酸葡萄 as I've never listened to any HDQ nor double QUAD before.
That's why I am being so tempted to build a double QUAD system my own. With a small flat at home, I knew it deep from my heart that the double QUAD would likely turn out to become a disaster despite forewarn from Feikeung and Limage.
CP, you yourself, me and Limage in fact look much younger than what you'd suggested. Ha ha.
I shall meet Dr King this Saturday morning my place and I look forward to hearing his second hand made cable. His first low cost hand made cable is really impressive except its look and user friendiness. I have no intention returning the cable to King.
Feel free to come after 10:00am in the morning follow by lunch together if available. You can also try Tim's BBA with the TVC. Together, rhey are just another low-cost winner to me. - #4172 [dnch], 07-08-16 21:39dkyyu,
I use Bedini 25/25 for 57 and 63 only, DQ is hunger for power and I use Radford T100 to drive DQ. STA25 for DECCA High and Big Q to drive 24" Hartley. The sound is also great and grand but not enjoyable.
This why I applause to 'CHINESE ESL' for it really produce enjoyable performance for nearly every kind of music.
Call back my sweet memory under signal no.8, I slept well that night. - #4171 [cpsjj], 07-08-16 21:28

dkyyu,
Don't over-estimate limage's age nor my "seniority", I started sniffing around the hifi shops in Central since 1978 and I was there checking out the HDQ and Rogers 3/5a in Excel. I'm sure Patrick has a fair amount of exeprience with the HDQ as well and he has once owned the DQ from Radio People. That leaves only you too young for that. But the waves of Yangtze keep sweeping forward. - #4168 [dkyyu], 07-08-16 20:50Correction. I was wrong.

No doubt about that. Albeit I'm an atheist, I was brought out in a catholic school and did learn something about Jesus, by force at that time. I'm just querying the validity of the inference, or implicitly denying, that something is extraordinary by drawing an analogy to some unrelated common feature of a big man as Jesus Christ.
