上月歷圖(Simon Rattle)率領倫敦交響樂團(下稱LSO)來港獻技三場,筆者出席最後一場,節目上半場為布拉姆斯第二鋼琴協奏曲,下半場為亞當斯(John Adams)《和聲教案》(Harmonielehre)。當晚實況及前兩晚演出,均由香港電台直播,誠為本港古典樂壇盛事。
筆者選擇尾場,原因無他,全為《和聲教案》而來。當晚筆者座位欠佳,背台而坐,聲效用音響術語言之,完全「反相」,聽來左右顛倒。然而樂團音色之佳,其精彩演繹處,還是讓筆者感動。反相座位唯一優點,倒能正面欣賞歷圖指揮全場,他驅策樂團、憂喜情態,盡現於背台觀眾。雖然坐得辛苦,還是值得。
就上半場布二而言,筆者覺得首兩個樂章音色略嫌粗糙,也許是團員未進狀態。鋼琴獨奏Emanuel Ax則早已「入定」,旋律對他來說彷彿早已了然於胸,奏來從容不迫,不費吹灰之力,演繹浪漫而富詩意,觸鍵輕柔,弱音仍遠處可聞,聽來教人動容。第三樂章,團員已入狀態,與Ax水乳交融,終曲一刻,所有器樂同時戛然而止,那樣齊一、那樣一致,讓筆者立即想起柏林愛樂,印象實在深刻。筆者聽LSO唱片,就聽不到現場那種絕對齊一,或許LSO這種微妙細節,只有通過現場演出才能清晰可聞;或許是歷圖功勞,多少移植了柏林愛樂的優點。
記得上次聆聽現場布二,鋼琴家是Sviatoslav Richter十分喜歡的Elisabeth Leonskaja,是次Emanuel Ax的演繹,與Leonskaja風格迥異。Ax讓人春風沉醉,奏來像如歌小鳥,一如筆者最近聽過的「韓國蕭邦」趙成珍(Cho Seong-Jin)。趙氏外型溫文爾雅,演奏甚具神韻。九月初他為港樂樂季揭幕演出拉赫曼尼諾夫第二鋼琴協奏曲,表現則較為緊張,或許他年輕,經驗尚淺,未如Ax般自若。至於Leonskaja,布二於她手下,是力的表現,浪漫得剛強,氣勢磅礡。當時筆者一聽,即想到另一鋼琴家Viktoria Postnikova,同樣極富剛強之美。如今Emanuel Ax奏來,至少像布拉姆斯,這是筆者主觀之見。
下半場《和聲教案》,筆者認為非聽現場不可,它結構複雜,眾多配器營造出逼人氣魄,山雨欲來、天崩地裂,絕對令人毛髮直豎,透不過氣。亞當斯此曲絕不容易演奏,全因當中各聲部精緻的獨奏合奏,需搭配得宜,要如理次第交代,才能顯示其張力與威力,否則一盤散沙,對位和聲一團糟,潰不成軍,堪難入耳。筆者初聽此曲,是當年迪華特(Edo de Waart)卸任港樂前的現場演出,一曲既終,掌聲如雷。若你能親聆現場演出,自會明白唱片無法拷貝其壯麗和聲,縱使此曲已有數個錄音存世。下次看到樂團演奏此曲,千萬不要錯過,因為你必然會愛上它。
LSO大提琴首席Tim Hugh於《和聲教案》獨奏部份無懈可擊,筆者相信在場樂迷定有同感。他錄有全套巴哈無伴奏大提琴組曲(Cello Suites),故早為同好所知。當晚演出,只證明他功夫了得,能夠在港聽他偶爾獨奏數節,還是讓人一飽耳福。
是次倫交翩然訪港,證實在歷圖捧下,可以更上一層樓,樂團音色通透,有時瑰麗得讓人想起柏林愛樂。然而,就筆者親聆所感,樂團沒有香港管弦樂團般溫暖。港樂自梵志登(Jaap van Zweden)進駐後,樂團表現已大為改善,變得更溫暖耐聽,音樂整體結構比以前更清晰嚴謹。雖然暫時無法與LSO及柏林愛樂媲美,但作為一個地區的,這樣「年輕」的樂團,港樂表現實在令人自豪,君不見樂團剛拿下英國《留聲機》雜誌「年度最佳樂團」大獎,同時表揚港樂締造了香港錄音史里程碑──留下華格納全套《尼貝龍根的指環》(Der Ring des Nibelungen)現場錄音,與古往今來世界同曲錄音爭光,光此成就,已值得港人驕傲。

Watch Hélène Grimaud play the Adagio from Mozart's Piano Concerto no. 23, which recorded for her new album marking two 'firsts' for Hélène Grimaud - her first live DG recording and her first ever Mozart concerto recording.
Hélène Grimaud considers the concerto in A major "probably the most sublime concerto Mozart ever wrote", with a slow movement that is "an extremely deep and painful expression of longing, where you find the real Mozart." The concerto was a 'must-have' for this collaboration. The concerto in F major K459 is less well-known, but with a very special vitality and a virtuosic finale that is for Grimaud, "pure pianistic pleasure".
Besides the two concertos, the album includes the beautiful concert aria for orchestra, soprano and piano 'Ch'io mi scordi di te', sung by Mojca Erdmann. The aria was Mozart's declaration of love to the soprano Nancy Storace, his Susanna in the world premiere of "Le nozze di Figaro".
