本年二月與四月,兩位德高望重的老指揮沙華利殊(Walfgang Sawallisch)與戴維斯(Sir Colin Davis)相繼辭世。兩人於二戰後的音樂建樹,有不少紀念文章都詳盡交代過,這裏不贅,本文要談的是兩人的領導和管理技巧。

歷史上的偉大指揮,大部分都是獨裁者。一百年前的馬勒和緊隨其後的托斯卡尼尼便是表表者。隨近五十年來形形色色的社會風氣和政治演變,獨裁者雖有減少,但仍大有人在,例如二三十年前才辭世的卡拉揚和柴利比達克。即使到了二○一三年,獨裁指揮亦尚未絕種:傳聞天才橫溢但脾氣暴躁的英國指揮攝普威(Frank Shipway,意大利都靈國立電台交響樂團創團指揮)便是一例。早期的獨裁指揮,可以隨心所欲地罷免、斥責或侮辱樂師。他們的重要本錢,是掌握樂師生死的權力。其後即使有了工會,樂師的職業獲得一定保障,指揮仍可以利用巡迴演出機會和錄音生意作為談判籌碼。有說卡拉揚便是耍弄此策的能手。
戴維斯早年才氣橫溢,於英國本土指揮人才凋零的情況下,很快便被捧上天,被譽為比徹姆(Thomas Beecham,一位獨裁指揮)之後最有天分的英國指揮。戴氏有機會指揮首屈一指的倫敦交響樂團,甚至為樂團首席指揮候選人之一,但碰巧樂團偏偏是一群反獨裁指揮的樂手組成的樂團。年輕的戴氏用老式方法治團,很快便被身經百戰的英國老臣子大耍特耍,頻頻與樂團角力。時日的磨練,使戴氏改變了領導方法,開始「以德服人」、與樂師分享智慧,終於老年得志,於九五年榮任樂團首席指揮,進入指揮生涯的高潮。
獨裁指揮的另一本錢是其音樂造詣。二十世紀上半葉擔任阿姆斯特丹音樂廳樂團首席指揮的孟傑堡便很喜歡賣弄自己是貝多芬的隔代弟子,他也和馬勒等作曲家關係深厚。這類指揮有獨特的經驗和知識,故此自然有威望,不需要提高嗓子也可教樂團服從。沙華利殊也屬於這類指揮。沙氏接受傳統的德奧「樂長式」訓練,風格務實、不喜出風頭。他九三年到美國任費城樂團音樂總監,起初並不為人看好——畢竟美國樂團太花巧了,且美國工會法例限制了指揮的職權。但結果沙氏的十年領導極為出色,至今仍為人所稱道,這歸因於他豐厚的指揮經驗之外,還有他「老一輩」勇於承擔的作風感動了大眾。
一九九四年,費城大風雪,整個城市幾乎癱瘓。積雪令費城樂團大部分樂師不能到音樂廳演奏華格納作品,於是沙氏便親自彈鋼琴為獨唱者伴奏。二○○一年,美國發生「九一一」襲擊事件,時在歐洲的沙氏得悉後立即希望回美國,指揮他的樂團。他任內最後一場音樂會,曲目是貝多芬第九交響曲。那時他已健康欠佳。筆者抵達現場時,詢問當音樂廳義工的老婆婆音樂會會否取消,老婆婆回答說有可能,但接異常緊地說,希望大師一切安好,因為台上台下都很為他擔心!
所以,領導與管理並無既定方法,能服眾便是好方法。

That why I dislike greedy people to seek me ripping disc or borrow discs from public library / friends ripping discs (CD or DVD or Blu-Ray), they might be a big spender in their hifi equipment but stingy of buying records....

- #25422 [george1977], 13-06-05 09:49看來用iphone拍片,然後上載至youtube的風氣確不可長,搞到Zimermann想錄音都無得出,因為youtube上有大量熱心樂迷偷錄的現場實況演出,搞到藝人飯碗及唱片合約不保,又難怪Zimmermann佢真是發火了!
請各位樂迷自重,否則連聼都無得聽,損失的又是誰?
