- #1 [cl7r], 11-09-07 18:27I used the second hand JBL speakers for years but one of the unit was gone. My wife forces me not to buy a second hand goods anymore. Would all CHings please help to suggest which model/brand suits my system. I am now using JC Verdier control B + 845 Luxe, Thanks!
- #2 [tripod28], 11-09-08 01:03If you have a high budget, you may try Living Voice from UK. Very easy to drive and looks traditional but quite expensive.
- #3 [tripod28], 11-09-08 01:08A less expensive choice is Omega Loudspeaker System. It sounds like a horn speaker and extremely opening. Very good value for money!

- #4 [Myers1], 11-09-08 10:53I am using the same combo as U. Theoretically speaking, the SET amps should work with high efficiency speakers like horns but the reality is the JCV 845 could handle many moderate loading speaker well. Such as the JMR Offrande Supreme, this latest generation is more amplifier friendly with 8 ohm impedence, the previous generation is 4 ohm. I have connected the 845s with the previous generation Offrande and it sounds great. So I believe it should also work with the Offrande Supreme. Not sure whether you have come across the JMR or not, for me I like the previous version more than the latest. The latest version sounds faster, however, if you have not listened to the previous version, it should not be a problem.
- #5 [Myers1], 11-09-08 11:09I also think that this Italian speaker Diapason Adamantes III could work with the JCV 845. Since you have chosen the 845, I guess you like smooth sounding speaker otherwise you should be using solid state amplifier.
This speaker is 6 ohm loading and 91db sensitivity using SEAS driver, should not be a problem for the JCVs. The showroom’s Audion EL34 is OK but not terribly exciting but bear in mind the transformer size of the Audion EL34 is roughly equivalent to 1 transformer of the JCV 845. In many forums, many says that the speaker is friendly to tube amp. The Germans says that it has a 100% wife accepting factor (WAF), built quality is gorgeous (better than many UK and French speakers), despite price has increased but cheaper than the JMRs.
Taiwan forum also mentioned that it could drive PMC and Proac. PMC is a bit try for me while Proac have a good 2 hand value and a large amount of users, this is some kind of play safe selections. - #6 [cl7r], 11-09-08 18:05Thanks CHings! btw, which speaker can drive 2A3 also as I have one vintage 2A3 amp.
- #7 [myers1], 11-09-08 19:582A3 probably need high efficiency speaker, Audio Note I think. AN E, AN J, AN K but Audio Note speaker looks boring!
- #8 [myers1], 11-09-08 20:04Frankly speaking not many very high efficiency branded speakers > 92db available in HK. Mostly are DIY using Lowther, PHY or ..... If you don't mind buying from overseas there will be more choices!
- #9 [welborne], 11-09-08 20:15Here is one i can recommend as I am using it:
Bastanis open baffle kit.
I have a link on this forum https://www.review33.com/avforum/forum_message.php?topic=75100922164607
You can buy from a guy call Andy in HONG KONG who sell them as hobby. Twins Audio will build the entire baffle and assemble everything for you at a very reasonable cost. This is 100db/1w sensitivity. You do need a separate amp for the woofer though. - #10 [welborne], 11-09-08 20:19if you are not so keen on open baffle due to lack of space, Bastanis also has a couple of designs based on back load horn. I think they are called Dragonfly or Little Big Fun. These have around 97db sensitivity if my memory serves me correctly. And unlike my Bastanis Mandala, you only need one amp for the fullrange sound.
You can see the Dragonfly at the back of this picture. At the front are unassembled Mandala baffle.
www.bastanis.de - #11 [ZOOpaLAST], 11-09-08 23:01i'm using Avantgarde with low gain single 2A3 SE
a perfect match! - #12 [cl7r], 11-09-09 00:04Avantgarde is good but i am so sure it should be over my budget and the max budget for mine is HK$80k. Also, I do think the efficiency for my target speakers should be over 90dB. At this stage, Audio Note and Omega seem to be my cup of tea, does any CHing have idea on the price and performance of them?
- #13 [Myers1], 11-09-09 11:59It is enviable that you could spend this amount in speaker. Some more higher efficient speaker where you could consider such as Horning’s Aristoteles Ultimate with a 96db sensitivity at 6.1 ohm.
http://www.horninghybrid.com/ - #14 [com-buddy], 11-09-09 13:46So envy that your better half trying to push you to buy brand new toys! My CEO wold only trying to push all hifi out of the door; no matter used or new!
- #15 [cl7r], 11-09-09 15:34com-buddy san, i am really a lucky guy!
- #16 [tripod28], 11-09-09 16:24cl7r hing, generally Audio Note speakers sound mellow and have a bit of ‘British’ taste. The more expensive models sound far better than the entry level models but don’t expect they deliver huge dynamics. You need to listen to it and see if you like this type of sound.
As for Omega, it is totally different from AN speakers. A friend of mine has bought a pair of bookshelf model last year and he listens to it mostly for jazz. My impression was Omega sounds super fast and very open (probably because it has no crossover) Depending on your preference for music, Omega will be very good for jazz, vocal and chamber music.
Lets go to the dealers and see which one will suit your needs.
Hope this helps. Cheers. - #17 [Myers1], 11-09-09 17:41If you visit the dealer of Omega, you should probably listen to Trenner & Friedl's Pharoah. Very easy loading with 92db sensitivity and the price should meet your budget. If price is not a concern T & F is better than Omega. Anyway the showroom have both speakers and JCV Control B + 845 Luxe
- #18 [myers1], 11-09-09 20:25Another high efficiency (8 ohm 94db) horn speaker Odeon Rigoletto from Germany. Now available at 16/F Park Yue Building Dundas Street MK

最後修改時間: 2011-09-09 20:31:27 - #20 [myers1], 11-09-09 20:34I listened to Living Voice before driven by Kondo's in London, great sounding but where to listen in HK. I've once asked Kevin Scott and he asked me to contact with Jonathan Midgley maybe living in mid levels.
