______________
Hi, c-hing,
Yes, as a matter of fact. I am still a big fan of MFA TVC preamp, Linn LP12 and QUAD ESL speakers. :)

- #220 [rc2], 16-03-24 08:43Hi gchan2001 hing,
This Tisbury mini resistor passive preamp is exactly what I am using right now, but mine is the first generation without any printing on the case. The one you posted which Tisbury is selling should be better at least cosmetically (i.e. with their brand logo and made in UK etc printed on it). It is extremely good for its low price, but I guess for it to sound good you need a source (CDP or dac) with a relatively high ouput (3.5v or above) - this to me is a key determining factor whether a passive preamp is suitable to one's system! I have recently taken my faulty active preamp to service and hooked the Tisbury preamp onto my system to tie me over the restoration period. Even with rca to xlr adaptors attached to its outputs it sounds good (and I guess sounding better and better). So if your system is running on rca I think the result should be better. Tisbury really gets me interested in passive preamps and that is the reason why I joined this chat link hoping to get some more info from other more experienced c hings for higher-end gears like those made by MFA and Promitheus Audio. - Hope it helps :)
dkyyu hing,

- #218 [dkyyu], 16-03-23 22:37Hi, dear c-hing,
Thanks for putting your trust on me.
Let me be frank in my way. When considering a passive pre-amp myself today, I would only put my hard-earned cash on the MFA baby Reference or its elder brother, the Reference model which offering me the best in class transparancy while retaining the all the goodies from active pre. Neither (i) made in UK nor (ii) made in Malaysia? or any other known TVC will be justified to show up on my shopping list. Well, I would put my vote on (i) but still with high reservation if you insisted.
In other words, with a modern audio system, you will likely regret for a mediocre passive pre unless you dare to opt for the very few best in class TVC, but at a price.
Hope the above can help. - #217 [tlac22], 16-03-23 15:33dkyyu hing,
Thanks for your comment, but given similar price range, how would you compare, say, (i) an MFA Baby Classic V2 and (ii) a Promitheus flagship monoblocks Signature? Do you think it is still (i) > (ii)? :)
THX - #216 [dkyyu], 16-03-23 14:58Hi, from my experience, they are simply in different leagues.
Don't take it serious. Just for fun. - #215 [user_aaron], 16-03-23 14:16#212.
請問曾sir你用開邊隻 cleaner?
可否介紹下?
謝謝. - #214 [tlac22], 16-03-23 14:01Hello high-hand c-hings,
I am new to passive preamps. Could you share some experience or thoughts on how the sound quality of those made by Music First Audio compare with those made by Promitheus Audio?
Many thanks!

- #207 [woodly], 16-03-23 10:25one more
- #206 [woodly], 16-03-23 10:23Any Ching has experience with Hattor passives pre-amp?

gchan 2001 hing - I think you won't be disappointed. Make sure you have a source gear (CDP or DAC) of high output (3v or above). Yesterday I switched to connecting the xlr outs of my dac (through xlr to rca adaptors) to Tisbury. The xlr outs have higher output (7v) and it sounds noticeably better (than the rca outs which are only 3.5v). All the best!
