- #44 [dh555], 11-11-07 17:03The best CD Transport should be Kalista.
A single unit DAC is very difficult to choose, however, Dodson Audio 218 Palladium is the best Analogue and Musical DAC in the World.
It is not that expensive but you have to wait.
Do not choose any CAS DAC - over price product.
However, I have tried a DIY CD Transport + Dodson Audio DAC which is very very Good.

- #46 [dh555], 11-11-07 22:38No No.
It is just a Brand.
It is just a pass through appliance with DAC but not the best Sound.
For Ultra High End USB DAC, there is only 1 Brand - Wavelength (I could give you a test).
For Traditional DAC using Media Player to stream 1:1 WAV - Still Dodson Audio the best. - #47 [eltw1234], 11-11-08 07:49I've been V80 w/BB & C1 user for more than 1 year, the first importatnt thing is to replace the input tubes. The change is more significant than changing the output tube.

多謝你的聽胆經驗,很有用。有沒有好胆介紹﹖我沒有換過胆,只用原來的6550來聽。
v80+Super BB: Metronome CD3(AFA Silver Bal),Proac1SC(Inakustik 1302(高)+1108(低), Power cord MBL PC1 x2,聲音通透, 低音雄渾, 富音樂感, 任何類型的音樂 我很高興 - #49 [dh555], 11-11-17 01:02I do have 3 NOS QUAD of GT 6550 late 80s stock.
- #50 [Rosenbloom], 11-11-24 10:32Hi all chings,
I'm thinking to buy V40SE. I am also considering Spendor A9 or Harbeth SuperHL5.
Any ching using Octave + Spendor/Harbeth?
Cheers - #51 [agentsmittie], 11-11-24 11:59I had Monitor 30s with Octave V70
If you like warm British sound the Octave is not for you. All I can say is it is very powerful and clean. - #52 [Rosenbloom], 11-11-24 12:33Thanks agentsmittie ching. =)
I know many chings said Octave sound signature is clean, fast and neutral. My thinking is ... I prefer the source with neutral and clean sound. Then I could "add color" with warmer speakers, cables and so on.
BTW, I mostly listen to classical music (all kinds). And, I don't like 爆機. I love listening music in mild and decent volume. - #53 [icefox_2001], 11-11-24 13:04And, I don't like 爆機

Other than that, how big is your listening environment? Are they treated with wall to wall carpet or bare walls? - #54 [Rosenbloom], 11-11-24 13:11My hifi room is about 10' x 16'. No special treatment on walls at this moment.
Last year when my apartment was having renovated, I asked the SiFu to install independent electric wires directly from the fuse box. That's all. - #55 [icefox_2001], 11-11-24 13:39My hifi room is about 10' x 16'. No special treatment on walls at this moment.

Sounds like a great foundation to start with. Not small and bad dimension at all, by HK standard.
Can you name some combo that you have heard before and find enticing? - #56 [apprentice], 11-11-24 13:49Rosenbloom C-Hing, the new Spendor and Harbeth are not very warm, only slightly warm. So Octave + Spendor/Harbeth will most likely give clean, detailed sound, even if you use Cardas speaker cables. I think Unison Research tube amp (the new S6 or S8) should give you more romantic and warm sound and provide lots of details at the same time.
- #57 [Rosenbloom], 11-11-24 13:57I never spent big on HiFi. I used to have Arcam, then Exposure 3010s2 + Harbeth P3ESR. The ICs and speaker cables are also ordinary stuff - All from BlueJeansCable.
I sold my Exposure and P3 months ago, find the P3 was a bit too small for my HiFi room. Now want to purchase a new combo. But I have never played tube amp before. And, I rarely audition audiophile combo =.="
Please take me as a completely new hand.
I only came to know Octave when I chatted with a HiFi shop owner several days ago... sigh... - #58 [Rosenbloom], 11-11-24 13:59>>> apprentice ching,
Thanks for your advice!! - #59 [icefox_2001], 11-11-24 14:04I used to have Arcam, then Exposure 3010s2 + Harbeth P3ESR.

This is a very typical Brit combo for enjoying music.
You said P3, btw an excellent choice, is small. I suppose you want a floorstander instead, right? What are you looking for and what are you lacking in the old system?
After all, you need to let people know how much you are going to spend to put things into perspective. - #60 [Rosenbloom], 11-11-24 14:18um.... I think 30-40k for an amp is the most I can afford at this moment. Then I need to save further for months before having enough money to buy speakers, sources.... Wow... Seemingly Mission Impossible. =.="
Yup, I now prefer big speakers. When I used P3, I found the vocal and solo instruments were lovely. But when coming to concertos or symphonies, the sound was a bit messy. Thus I am considering either floorstanding (like Spendor A9) or big speakers (SuperHL5). Hopefully they may meet my expectations. - 下一頁 (3 of 9)
