Wow......big...big...change!
Congratulation! - #4700 [Condefly2], 07-09-21 22:24Dennis,
Thanks for the black Linn oil, my LP 12 is filled with Teflon high speed spindle lubricate which used on my multi-million CNC grinding machines which I found it works very well with most of my TT.
3009, yes a little bit ! - #4699 [dkyyu], 07-09-21 21:49Dear Conde,
Don't make the world laugh on me. But I can surely supply you the black Linn oil. Call me when you are home :).
Do you have experience setting up SME 3009 arm? - #4698 [Condefly2], 07-09-21 21:27Typo again: CJ ACT 2 preamp

- #4689 [Condefly2], 07-09-21 20:56Limage 前輩 & all ESL folks,
Just a little update for my King ESL spk, even it's not fully run-in I'm quite happy with it for the past 5 weeks. The King is very dynamic which compatible to my JMR flooring spk (4 X 10" woofers), in terms of "transparency" I should praised the King is far better than my Quad ESL 63 Pro in all aspect ! (just my 2 Cents)
The King is a power hunger, I had tried my Italian AES Reference 2 (220/W @8ohms) poweramp to feed them but the sound is not what I expected from the Italian stallion.
So, I temporary settling with 4X ICEPower 1000ASP to bi-amp the King. A pair of Manley moster tube amps & VTL 300B will be on it's way !
The King is a very space demanding spk, I place them approx. 1.8 M from the front wall and 0.7 M from the sidewall respectively in my small junkyard. A slightly teo-in about 5 degrees and the mid/high panel is facing outward.
Limage, I'm looking forward for your '定位大法' for placing the King !
Associated equipments as follow:
Preamp: CJ ARC 2, ARC Ref 1 MKII, D.Klimo Merlin, Klyne....etc.
Digital: dCS upsampling to DSD
TT: Micro air float, Linn LP-12
Phono amp: SME (my all time favorite) - #4688 [jcml], 07-09-21 14:00Not recommended for safe use with the Quad ESL-57 - AVOID !
Generally following items should be avoided in any case :
o Solid-state amps made for pro-audio applications (public address systems)
o Solid-state amps with capacitors in the output-stage
o Cheap integrated amps
In detail :
n BGW series 200 ( may go into severe oscillation and kills the treble units )
n ION Obelisk range ( not stable into electrostatic loads )
n Rotel RA 820 ( good integrated but not stable into the ESL-57 )
n Lectron JH 50 ( switch-on thump that may kill the ESL-57 )
n Job series by Goldmund ( not absolutely stable into electrostatic loads )
n Quad 405 ( stable , but mediocre sound - sorry Peter )

Warning to all ESL57 owner.
DO NOT plug in any solid state amp into your ESL57 before doubly verify that it can stand the strange load of the ESL. It can be most disastrous.
To make sure that doctorjohn's Adcom 555 is in good condition to drive the Maggie which has a very low impedance, I plugged it into the almighty 3/5a. Everything worked fine although a bit dry. And then I ventured to plug it into the ESL57, as I'm so "altruistic" to consider feikeung's beloved whore and limage's masterly work on the harlot. Within 15 seconds there was a burnt smell and when I tried to touch the chassis of the Adcom, it was red hot. Luckily I didn't do any permanent damage to either the amp nor the speaker. Thank God! - #4686 [davwong], 07-09-21 11:10hi, limage,
you almost get it right.
the emt929 tone arms suit either universal cartridge (e.g. sme) or emt cartridge. mine is for emt cartridge (here is the TSD 15 superfineline fitted) and no other pickup other than emt be applied. - #4685 [limage], 07-09-21 10:46
The EMT is no doubt a superlative turntable, built like a battleship and able to last a century. The arm, however, looks rather crude to my eyes and I suspect it may not be compatible with cartridges other than EMT/Thorens. - 下一頁 (174.75 of 409)

Condefly2 and Yoda,
I am so delighted to hear that you have the Kings singing for you now. It’s such a pity that you cannot throw us the big party until end of October. You see, we just can’t wait to get ourselves bowled over!
